Sagekilla
What's the general recommendation for texture mods on Oblivion 1.2 + SI? I took a look at TOTO and I find the 1.2 LOD page to have horrendous looking landscapes. On 1.1 I can find this, which I particularly like, but for 1.2 they show this ugly looking picture. Personally, I don't want my landscape to suddenly change color when there's the new LOD, I just want it to stay one uniform color if it's supposed to be the same color if you didn't use the LOD maps (I.e. viewing the raw landscape stretched everywhere.) Can anyone point me towards what mods I should install so I can get a good looking oblivion that doesn't look like that 1.2 image? I already have QTP3 Redimized but I think the rocks in some places look plain funky with the parallax. Any ideas?
herosinger
The color change is caused by two things. 1) Noise replacer - fix this by using a lighter noise shader (like the one included in Koldorn's set) 2) Deeper normal maps - fix this by using smaller-sized normal maps (linked from TOTO)
Sagekilla
Can you recommend a general mod setup that would work well for what I want? I've been trying various combinations for the past 3 hours but I'd either get too dark results (even with a very, very weak noise filter + small normal map) or a uniformly colored image that's blurry. MrCooper2006
the 1.2 page you were on, if you think thats ugly you need your eyes testing!! I use both Qarls 4096s and Blades 4096s along with the Medium Noise Replacer and it looks brilliant. You cant get better than the 4096 ones. Take a screenshot on yours using vanilla and then the 4096, you will be amazed. EDIT: Also the colour of the land does merge nicely, can be a bit nasty in certain lights, but 75% of the time does look amazing. With QTp3 which you already have, and you shouold get Ehanced Weather, you cant get it looking any better
Sagekilla
There's nothing wrong with my eyes. What I find wrong is how horrible the transition is from one texture set to another: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v621/Sagekilla/highlight.jpg I've already worked out a decent setup so it doesn't look as horrible as that. But my main gripe is what's with the HUGE difference between the near textures and far textures? I don't understand why we can't have, even if they're blurry, a smooth transition in color instead of this drastic difference. It really kills the immersion factor for me.
