dikr
Hey all, After trying out numerous settings from numerous tips and tutorials in order to get rid of flickering, blocky shadows specifically on my character's body in 3rd person I can draw the following conclusion: By far the biggest impact on 3rd person shadow quality for me is made by reducing the fShadowDistance in the SkyrimPrefs.ini. Shadow resolution, sampling, quarter and all other parameters seem to pale in comparison. Even disabling AA doesn't really change much compared to the huge impact of fShadowDistance. The blockiness and remaining flicker at a lower fShadowDistance can further be reduced by increasing your iBlurDeferredShadowMask though. Even the parameters fSunShadowUpdateTime and fSunUpdateThreshold in the Skyrim.ini don't seem to do much to get rid of flickering shadows on your body. At least for me they don't. My problem though, is that with my aging system the trade off to get clean, quiet, acceptable shadows on my body is pretty big: I need an fShadowDistance=800 to get the shadows to look fine on my body and this means that you see the shadows "roll out" in front of you when you walk around in the world because the distance where shadows are rendered is much closer. Pretty annoying. It's like curing blindness by cutting off your legs. Does anyone have a tweaking suggestion for me to be able to increase the fShadowDistance to around 2000 or so and still have nice shadows on my body? (I can post my full ini settings later when I get home). If you have a solution or a workable improvement for me you win a fresh kudo cake <
