Game crashes whenever I use the keyboard for any reason.

The game has recently decided to crash on me every time I use the keyboard for any reasons.

 

Tilde key to bring up the console? "Fallout New Vegas has stopped working."

 

Escape key to make the main menu come up faster. "Fallout New Vegas has stopped working."

 

Even just loading a save, and then using the WASD keys to move around?! "Fallout New Vegas has stopped working."

 

I can look around using the mouse, and I can switch to gamepad controls so I can at least play the game. However, this is problematic for me. In addition to preferring the keyboard and mouse, I need the ability to alt-tab out of the game so I can check things online. Also, I make youtube videos, which means that I need (not want) the ability to use console commands.

 

Uninstalling every mod except official DLC doesn't fix the problem. Even uninstalling and reinstalling the game on steam doesn't fix it.

 

Any ideas?

Do you have a game controller connected? If so, please see the 'Solutions to Control problems' section

Otherwise, what changed recently? In general, if you haven't changed anything about your game and it suddenly stops working correctly you need to look to other causes: such as software updates to Windows, programming libraries such as ".Net", or hardware drivers. Older games eventually get dropped from product testing. It is also possible you are having problems with your hard drive. It never hurts to run "chkdsk".
