skyrim "fog of war" problem

hello,

I have a small issue

what I call the "fog of war" : that is the fog which gets removed on the zoomed map as you travel,

In whiterun, this fog always partially come back covering some already discovered houses & locations, no other towns seem to do that as far as I know (but then I didn't explore everywhere yet)

Have you tried any mods that change the games clouds or edited ini files for clouds?

 

If you use A Quality World Map - With Roads make sure to have read the install instructions carefully and don't use cloud line ini edits at the same time with A Quality World Map - With Roads, this mod has seven folders to it when extracted only use one folder from that mod at a time

ho yeah I use that

I remember reading it, generally it's my habit, ho well I'll go read it again

I don't remember editing any in-game clouds and I left world map clouds alone, still gotta check

 

still seems weird that it could be "clouds" related

 

EDIT: I have none of the ini settings that he said shouldn't be there

EDIT2: here's a pic to show the issue the black "fog" circled in red shouldn't be there as I passed through this area at least 3 times

each time I'm about to discover the whole area it becomes black again ....

none, except if the unofficial patch does something but I doubt it

I'll try deactivating all my mods to see

edit: same issue with all ESPs deactivated

 

also tried deleting my ini files to no avail

 

edit2: ho by the way it behaves the same in riften & I think it does this elsewhere too

 

I think it's a "cell" issue or something, the shape is pretty regular almost a square (with a small portion removed in the corner because that's where I am)

and it's always the same behavior:

 

If I remove the black fog by moving around, it works fine until I'm about to remove the last 10% or so

when it's about to be all clear, boom it's all black again

I had problems with patches made by the community for skyrim, so I don't use them and just keep my mod choices slim and under 20 at a time, I also make sure to have the latest updates installed from Bethesda or steam!..

I experience the same problem. It has nothing to do with any mods. It's even in vanilla and it happens in all locations. It's really pathetic that Bethesda hasn't done anything about this yet. This bug where fragments of the fog of war reappear on the local map already existed in Oblivion and in Fallout 3 as well. Seems they just brought it into Skyrim. I find this to be extremely annoying, because I've got quite a obsessional neurosis about unveiling the fog of war as much as I can.

 

If anyone has a solution to this problem I'd be very grateful.

 

edit: So, I've done a little research and it seems this is well known and lots of people have this. But I couldn't find any solutions to fix this. There are threads everywhere, but all of them are dead ends. I'm really desperate atm...
