NemesisTheWarlock
Hey guys, this is my first attempt at modding and I appear to have fallen at the first hurdle. I've been trying to download the unofficial oblivion patch as it seemed like the best place to start. The downloading process seems to work fine until it finishes the first step at which point it tells me that it cannot be installed as the file type is unrecognised.I'm using the latest version of NMMRunning XPCorrect version of Oblivion for the patch, 1.20.416 with only KoN and SI added.I'm stuck and been at trying to fix it all day, any help is appreciated but I may not be able to reply for a few days. Thanks
shinobi2008
My best advise is to avoid NMM and just download manually. Then learn to use Wrye Bash to manage your mods and BOSS to sort your load order. More info about modding Oblivion here: http://tescosi.com/wiki/Main_Page and Pictorial Guide to Wrye Bash by alt3rn1ty here: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/35230. Good luck!! NemesisTheWarlock
Thanks Shinobi. I had already tried the manual download but it caused a system crash  I'll take a look at the two links you posted and give it another try. Will leave an update on my progress
NemesisTheWarlock
Ah, ok I think I see the problem here, I'm an idiot. I didn't mean that I was trying to create a mod, I'm not really at that stage yet. I was simply trying to get started using mods to breathe new life into my Oblivion game. Given what I've read I'm thinking that I might be better off just leaving well enough alone, if I can't even manage to download the unofficial patch without it messing up, what chance have I got with anything more complicated? A real shame :ohdear: If anyone does have any advice on how to get over what I'm sure must be a very simple first step into modifying the game, please post a reply here. To re-iterate, my very first attempt to add a mod was to try installing the unofficial patch, it failed at the first step saying that the file format unrecognised, if that means anything to anyone, please let me know, it must be something simple and stupid on my part I'm sure. NemesisTheWarlock
Ok, luckily I have a friend who writes Mods for Skyrim, so, should anyone else have this problem (unlikely as it is) here is the solution - Download OBMM first Download the OMOD versions of Mods where available (Manual otherwise) Activate the Mods through OBMM and NMM putting them in the correct load order If, like me, you wanted to download the recommended Unofficial patches, remember to remove each Mod that corresponds to DLC that you don't have installed Sorted!Sorry for any confusion that resulted in my initial post, I know that this was a total Newbie problem, but I am a total Newbie, just glad I persevered and hope this might help anyone else with similar issues, after all, it's only taken 3 days!!
dubiousintent
Before you go too far down the OBMM road, I suggest you look at the thread 'OBMM alternative or solution'. Wrye Bash is a much better solution, and it can install your OMOD downloads, though it does not use their scripting. -Dubious-
NemesisTheWarlock
Thank you Dubious, that little gem of wisdom is no doubt going to come in very handy, very much appreciated  Cheers Nemesis
