A Decision to Make

Yeah, I'm a user of Steam, things have gone out of hand with CC, and I left the clan. Now that I'm here, I would like to ask what you guys think I should do.

I am friends with a member who commented on my AK-47 mod, which is Combinemaster. Well, used to be. He helped me create my site and forum, as I'm sure TES Nexus moderator Buddah first saw on his first visit. That was before it got shut down by the foul actions of someone who must've had something against me or my site. Anyway, I see Buddah is busy on watching the Nexus here and everything, and I believe is doing a great job by doing so. Well, you would always make the site safe and enjoyable. Why would I say you weren't?

But anyway, this question pops up in my head, and I keep asking myself 'How can I forgive a friend if he betrayed me, used me, or whatever, and made himself an enemy or alliance with an enemy after defending our clans from that enemy? The bridge comes down, and we become friends? Why did my friend lie about the clan?', and it did come to the point that Combinemaster lied to me about his enemy clan NOD. Was supposed to be the enemy that we fought to survive, but he basically told me they were his friends, and trying to make me start a war for no reason. I'm guessing Combine forces want to mess with my Marine Corps. Maybe I can work this out with him, and forgive him for what he did.

On the other hand, there is TMS. I'm pretty sure the leader is GodWolf. When I first introduced myself to him, he seemed a bit harsh and hostile at first. I guess that happens at the first time when you need the time to get that guy to know you a bit more.

"Who are you, what is the name of your clan, who are you with, who's in your clan, what is the purpose of the alliance, and why should I care?"

That's the response I received from him at first. But now we're easy going after I told him my story. So my prediction is that Combinemaster wanted me to alliance with a clan to try and destroy his friend, which is the alternate way of getting me to attack the colony and attacking NOD for no reason at all. Now it's too late to undo what has been done, I have alliance with TMS now, and I'm against NOD.

GodWolf also hasn't double-crossed me like Combine did. NOD is his enemy, and I will have to stick with that. I could make good business with TMS, maybe more recruits, I don't know.

Um, what do you guys think? Who should I alliance with, and who should I forget?

This is kinda your majority decision. Not my decision until the majority of votes label it. There is bound to be consequences of what one clan might decide to do though.

Lord Slyther, during my time here at the Nexus Forums, I have come to think of you as a friend and an ally. I will not vote, because I to not like influencing others based off of a petty poll (unless it's a Presidential Election).

If this this user you talk about - Combine, is it? - is indeed your friend in "real life," you should stick with him all the way. If he has betrayed you, turn the other cheek. If he is not your friend outside of the Internet, but he has helped you greatly, still stick with him. If he truly is your ally, fight with him. If he is your enemy, fight against him.

I was in a clan once where I got betrayed. It was all rather confusing. Eventually the clan got shut down because of ignorance of the site. I still hold hope that I will someday run into my old friends on that clan...

Don't let a petty argument rip apart a friendship. Whichever side you choose, keep in touch with your friend.

But most importantly, choose wisely, and go with your true feelings. However, do not let those feelings get clouded with anger and revenge.

I find that when I pick the moral choice, it always ends up turning out in a good way.

Cheers,

gman021

<snip'd for space>

All that stuff I snip'd made absolutely no sense to me; I don't use Steam, have no idea of its politics, and have no idea of what you're speaking of in terms of "betrayal."

I do know Real-World politics, though, and my advice to you?

If this matter only affects a Game, ally yourself with whomever you feel most comfortable with. You should not forget anyone, as you must remember that every game persona has its Real-Life counterpart out there somewhere. If you must make a vendetta against someone in the game-world, ham it up so severely that it becomes obvious that you aren't entirely serious.

If this matter involves Real-World assets (you mentioned a website being shut down?) then you should discuss the matter openly and civilly with the opposing party before anything else. Communicate, communicate, communicate... I know you idolize the jarheads (you may even be one, for all I know), but that doesn't mean you need to follow their tactics of "ArtilleryPrep - Assault - Destroy"... add diplomacy into the mix as a first choice.

Caveat: This is only one opinion, from someone who doesn't have all the facts in the situation, based on your single initial post in this thread. Feel free to disregard this advice if it does not apply.

I can agree with most of what Humanbean said. I would add one caveat, however. The person that caused your website to be shut down - it is right to forgive him, but there remains a decision as to whether or not it would be in your best interest to continue to associate yourself with this person.

Would you be opening yourself up for a second betrayal if you continued to befriend him, or would your forgiveness cause him to come to his senses, and realize how bad a move he made?

That is a judgment that only you can make.

Combinemaster hardly had anything to do with the shutdown, we don't know who it is, but that's another story. On to the topic.

Yes I agree this ain't this serious to all of you, but quite serious to me and my clan members. No biggies or anything, it's all just me. So I came here to hang out with my friends here for a bit, and see what opinions you have.

If this this user you talk about - Combine, is it? - is indeed your friend in "real life," you should stick with him all the way. If he has betrayed you, turn the other cheek. Combinemaster, I don't know him in real life. I've only known him through the internet. I may know Halogod454 in real life, but that's another story about Halogod454. I wasn't aware of this all being a setup, but he told me it was.

"I lied. NOD was never our enemy."

I agreed with him on that point, so when I tried to increase the defenses of CC by alliance with other clans, unexpectedly that's when I learned it was all a setup. Would I forgive Combinemaster, would I take a second chance of betrayal and almost like nuking another country for no reason, would I alliance with GodWolf to stop chances of betrayal, or will I just step out and not get involved? I don't know. I asked this question because I felt the world is coming to an end for USFMC. Dark clouds covering the sky, thunderbolts striking along with heavy layers of hail coming down, tornadoes wiping out landscapes, tsunamis causing chaos at the coast, oceans boiling, the earth cracking. I thought to myself "This could be the end of everything...", it's a hard choice between a friend and someone I've known for at least 2 days, chances of second betrayal, chances of good business with TMS, I don't know. I didn't say it would be easy. I would hope Combine would realize his mistakes if I did forgive him.

This has nothing to do with real life politics or anything, just internet business. Just a question on what you would do if your best friend betrayed you. What would you do?

If my best friend betrayed me... I'm not sure what I would do. I would feel hurt, but I would try to work it out with him (or her). If that doesn't work and they still are mean towards you, then leave them behind; BUT keep them as a contact, just in case you change your mind.

I saw this topic on USF, and I also saw what happened to this member.

Like I said before, go with your feelings.

That is honestly all I have to offer.

Actually, the TMS is taking interest to attack 68th Airborne instead. So I'm relieved that they spared Combinemaster, but they still hate NOD. So Combinemaster said he has nothing involved with any alliances from NOD from this point on.
