Automated Turrets Get Variable Weaponry

A thought I had while playing FO3 today.

 

Rather than all automated turrets having identical weapon characteristics (ceiling mounts all shoot bullets, floor mounts all fire lasers), is there something that could be done to vary this? Possibly including other weapon types such as Shotgun, Plasma, Flamer and/or maybe even Grenade or Missile (for the really hard-core). My thinking being that this would add extra uncertainty to the game when dealing with those things.
