This should fill you in on all the basics;CS wiki

As for the programs you'll need;

Construction Set for the basics like editing armors, moving things around in the game, quest making etc.

For modelling you'll need to get a 3d program like 3DS Max/Maya/Blender(free)

For texturing any kind of photoeditor will work, photoshop/paint shop pro etc. There are lots to choose from.

You'll also need Nifskope and DDS Converter

I might've forgotten something, but someone will mention if I did. Also gonna request to move this to general mod talk.

Before you do anything else, get and learn how to use the construction set. All of the other programs that will be recommended here are dependent on being able to use the CS. It doesn't matter how well you can use Gimp or Blender or any of the others, if you have problems with the CS, you won't be able to make mods.

The CS is free and available at the Bethsoft site here:

http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_utilities.htm

The tutorial for it is located on the WIKI, here:

http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Main_Page

Follow the beginners guide tutorial and you will learn most of what you need to know to work with mods. Then when you decide you need another tool, look on the Tesnexus for advice on what will work best for what you are trying to do.

Good luck. We are looking forward to seeing your mods here.

Thanks everyone, appreciate all the info!

I have the Construction Set and have been messing with it for a week or so now, but it will be nice to have something a bit more explanatory at hand to help me learn it, as opposed to random trial and error.
