Essential Followers

I'm currently using Brehanin's Better Vampire mod. In this mod you have the ability to create thralls that are basically followers that have joined the vampire faction. The problem I am encountering is that these followers become essential when asked to follow (and are otherwise normally not essential.) Brehanin has said that this should not be part of his mod, and so I'm bringing it here for some help.

 

Again: Followers are non-essential by default, but upon being asked to follow become essential. Console commands can't stop this. When they are asked to stop following, they return to being non-essential.

 

Any ideas as to what may be causing this and how to fix it?

It sounds like there is an alias attaching to the followers when you tell them to follow you and detaching itself when they leave your service. An example of this is Aela the Huntress is essential when she follows you throughout the Companion questline, but once the questline is over, she is no longer essential.

 

As far as how to fix it, I'm sorry but I'm not sure. If you are looking in the CK, then you would want to check for a quest that is associated with their dialog, but exactly how and what to do I still haven't gotten into quests and dialog. It does seem strange that it's not a part of his mod if they are doing this. The only explanation for that I can think of is that you have a followers mod installed that automatically sets any follower to essential. If you are using a followers mod, I would read through the description to see if that is in fact what is happening and to see if there's an option to not make followers essential.

^ Either that or it's some part/script embedded in the Vampire faction, maybe your "vampire" followers have this setting until you reach a certain level or part of the overall quest line ...
