LunaEversor
I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to automate the process of recoloring vertex in either xEdit or the Skyrim Creation Kit. Do any scripts exist for it, or is there a native way of doing so? I am working on a personal project that requires me to change the existing vertex color for the entire landscape in Skyrim. I know which records are responsible for recoloring the vertex. The issue is that they are not uniform which means that I can not simply copy an existing record over.I have also posted this over at the SkyrimMods Reddit page. I am also asking here because I am not entirely sure that I'll receive an answer over there.
maxarturo
Unfortunately this task is done only by hand in NifSkope, if there is an xEdit way to do it i haven't figured out how to do it, but certainly no Script exists that can help you with this and it can't be done in CK.This is just like applying new - different textures to a mesh, no script can do this !. LunaEversor
Hello, maxarturo. I am aware that NifSkope is a requirement when editing the mesh files. What I am looking to do is edit the vertex color of the landscape itself. You can do this via the Creation Kit, however it will only allow you to edit a single cell at a time. You can also manually edit the Worldspace through xEdit. The issue with xEdit is that the Vertext Height Map, Vertex Colours, Alpha Layer Data, as well as an Unknown property are all seemingly responsible for changes made in the vertex color. Vertex Colours, when it is applicable, can be changed using a copy/pasted value. The Unknown property also doesn't seem to be an issue as it is consistent throughout any changes so long as the same color is being used. It is the Vertex Height Map and Alpha Layer Data which seems to take in to account other values and variables. It prevents me from simply copy/pasting a predefined record of those changes. Doing it by hand through the Creation Kit is possible, although tedious. That is why I was wondering if there was an alternative or better method available. maxarturo
I didn't understand you were talking about Landscape (exterior cell) i thought individual meshes. In that case i don't know, never try to change vertex colors in landscape. * My bad, sorry...
LunaEversor
No problem, maxarturo. Most of the discussions about this topic are dealing with meshes. I know it has been done in other landscape overhauls but it seems to be less talked about. I had started editing the cells individually, I am just hesitant on continuing as loading cells continuously results in frequent crashes. It will be difficult come the wilderness section where I'll need to constantly find the correct cell to edit after each crash. Possible, yet tedious. Just figured I'd see if there was a better way of doing it.
