Making Companions for hire

Hi forums. I've been working on some creature companion mods (mostly doggies) for awhile and I just released a new quest where I figured out how to create dialogue. So....I guessed the next step would be to combine the two, so I started making an Npc Follower. The follower is a Khajiit Archer that restocks arrows when they run out, the type depending on level.

The difference between her and other companions on the site that I've seen is that she offers her protection for a price. 500 Septims for 30 days, once those days are up the game checks your gold count and opens a message box and asks if you want to rehire her for another 30 days. I think I can have some fun with this. I plan on releasing a whole set of them with different personalities, elemental attacks, Spells etc. and responsibility.

 

So far:

Khajiit Female 01 - Neutral - Ranger - Silver Bow w/ leveled arrows + ench arrows

 

Now on to the point of this thread, since I'm going to be releasing this to the site, I wanted to know if theirs any companion anybody wants custom made. If your interested in contributing

just leave a comment like: Name:?/Race:?/Combat:?/Weapons:?/Armor:?/ don't worry about spells, I can pretty much guess what your looking for if you say a fire mage or something.

I worked on making a Merril, since that was your request in the thread you linked. :wink:

So far she can be hired, told to follow or wait. I just need to find some videos of her so I can adjust her dialogue to match her character.

Then I have to move her to a location and reset the reference variables in her dialogue quest. So if you have a place in mind where you want her to be let me know. :)

I think a "Pack Mule" would be good. Give them extremely high encumbrance and low fighting ability.

The idea would be to hire them for a very short period of time 1-2 days and only use them once you've cleared out caves.

Low aggression & confidence.

I think a Nord may be best suited as they're one of the physically biggest races

 

I know a lot of people like immersion so they wont use things like bag of holding or 'cheat' items, some even the fast travel.

This would probably be quite popular amongst these people - me included

I'll give it a try once I figure out how to open an Npc's inventory...I guess I can make them a merchant that sells/buys everything for 0 gold, so I'll definitely give it a shot. ;)

I found a way to open a container instead, it took me two tries though since I didn't know that something had to be container.activate instead of activate container. I'll probably have him charge you every four-five days. You can still access his inventory if he left, but he has to have been hired at least once to bring up the topic. :)

Ok loaded up Merril and there are some odd things going on with her. She seems to have issues follow up and down stairs she will get stuck or just stop following, once she got stuck in a wall.

also i don't know here level but she going down way too easy she gose unconscious ever few seconds in a fight. With her armor broken she now goes around naked after i fast traveled. I think if you make here a CM partner that can be hired for so long and after which she gose here own way, that might be the way to

I'm not sure you can add the ability to hire a cm companion. Active Inventory Spell is a mod anyone using companions should consider.

 

I personally don't like some of the features of CM companions (though the mod and skill that went into it are exceptional) so I'm trying to create my own. I think that mods like CM companions that make it very easy for people to add their own companions to may be preventing some people from developing their skills and creating a more unique companion.

 

As to walking into walls etc. Do you have all the patches, including unofficial? do other NPCs use the area without problem? it could be an issue with the pathgrids.
