FPS tanked after uninstalling WARZONES mod?

I recently reinstalled Skyrim and the following mods (using NMM):

 

Official high res texture packs

Convenient horses

HD Textures DLC fix

Immersive Armors

Project Reality - Climates of Tamriel - Weather - Lighting

SKSE

SkyUI

Static Mesh Improvement Mod

W.A.T.E.R. Water and Terrain Enhancement Redux

 

I made *very* minimal changes to my INI files (mostly for shadows). I'd been playing for a couple of days when i decided to install the WARZONES - Civil Unrest mod. At this point, I had just headed from Whiterun to Dustman's Cairn on the Companion's "Proving Honor" quest. Just south of Dustman's Cairn, I ran into my first warzone and the game continued to run ok. I completed the Proving Honor quest and started heading back to Whiterun. Very shortly after entering the warzone again, the game crashed to the desktop with no error. I restarted and loaded my game again. Sure enough. CTD. Since I had been playing with no problems before installing the warzones mod, I decided to disable and uninstall it using NMM. When I reloaded my save game, I get the "This save relies on content that is no longer available..." message. When I click OK to that and the game loads, my FPS is now in the low single digits. Has anyone else experienced this behavior before after removing the warzones mod? If so, were you able to correct the problem without reverting to an older save game?
