Oblivion Reloaded and ENB

Oblivion Reloaded is famous for its incompatibility with enb presets. At least, I've never been able to get the two to work simultaneously.

HOWEVER - the latest version of Oblivion Reloaded says it is enb/enb boost compatible.

Granted, my previous attempts have been with the previous version of Oblivion Reloaded. When I tried with this version, loading the game from my mod manager would load the game with the enb preset while disabling both OBSE and Reloaded. When I opened the game from the Steam folder, the game would load with Reloaded and OBSE but without the enb preset.

Is there any secret to make the two work together? Or with this latest version do I just install an enb like I would usually? Or will the two never make friends and I just don't have the technical knowhow to make that magic happen?

Thanks.

What's your distribution? Steam, GOG, retail disc? And what mod manager are you using, when you said you were launching your game "through" it before? Mod Organizer by chance?

Integration of both OBSE and ENB differs greatly depending on these two things.

Hmm, Steam's the most complicated one. But you not using any of the "virtual" file system based managers helps a lot, so you don't "have" to use the manager to run the game with mods.

Sadly I don't know much about Steam and the many ways its patches broke several integrations in different ways over the years, but one thing I can tell, it could always be fixed. It's just unnerving that the correct means of integration of these run-on-start or hook-into-memory tools regularly change(d) with every new update to Steam:

Sometimes the "enable Steam overlay in-game" has to be checked, sometimes it mustn't.

The "obse_steam_loader.dll" has to be the right one, though that one gladly only very rarely changes.

And how to get it so ENB still launches when you launch the game through Steam (a must when you want to use the OBSE integration, the "obse_loader.exe" cannot be used for Steam, or at least it can't for "most" of the versions/updates I know of) is completely unknown to me.

However, there's 2 different means to get ENB to run with the game, as far as I know: The wrapper and the injector. Depending on how either of these works, one or the other should definitely be the right one to use with Steam. There should be documentation for this though.

So, if I got that right, launching through OBMM or Vortex launches the ENB integration but doesn't launch through Steam, so the OBSE integration doesn't work.

And launching through Steam does run the integration fine and everything OBSE works correctly, but ENB doesn't launch.

Sounds to me like the ENB integration needs to be refitted to work with Steam. How does one install ENB for the Steam version of the game anyways?

Anybody else more knowledgable with modding the game on Steam, and especially using ENB with Steam, care to chime in?

I actually haven't been launching the game through OBMM, just Vortex. And since I've uninstalled then reinstalled everything, I've just been going to the Steam folder in case opening with Vortex messes things up again. Or my computer just refuses to let things work the way they should, which is something it likes to do.

If it makes any difference to installation, I've already installed the latest version of Oblivion Reloaded.

Hmm, I just stumbled across a passus in Bevilex' list (inside "ENB & Oblivion Reloaded") where he instructs users of Steam to turn the Steam overlay off, if they want to use OR and ENB together. However, as a non-Steam user myself, I was always under the impressions you "have to" have the Steam overlay enabled in order for OBSE to launch?

We definitely need someone more Steam-knowledgeable to chime in here now.

Hi! I have been using ENB and OR together on steam just fine. (as well as with OBSE) I use the steam overlay and the big picture overlay. (for controller use) I recently swapped to using it with ENBoost instead, and that works as well. It's possible OR's default settings interfere with it at some point, as I used the OR ini from the Bevilex mod list that toggles off a number of it's options as a starting point for tweaking OR myself. Also, I use the typically suggested version of ENB (I am pretty sure it's the wrapper?) I also installed OR (and all my mods) manually, using Wrye Bash or the bashed patch and general organization.

It is also worth noting, that operating systems seem to really trip Oblivion out. Form what I can gather, windows 10 default edition annoys it. I think windows 10 pro allows additional permissions to games, as I never have to jump through hoops other windows 10 users seem to to get games or mods working. Because of this, it could come down to some sort of windows permission, or anti-virus interfering with one of the programs. This would be my personal bet, if it's not some ini edit in OR you need to make.

EDIT: The comment beneath me has a point as well, the version of the ENB I used with OR said it was made for OR.

I am considering using OR with ENBoost (not a full ENB) but it seems that may be redundant.

Here is a link to guide I found for setting up Oblivion Reloaded.

https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/articles/44296/

There is an ENB section titled 'Using Oblivion Reloaded with ENB'. I have not used this guide. I have read it only, yet it seems to be fairly informative and fairly up-to-date. Of course I am always cautious with guides. The thing that catches my eye in that section is this:

"Also, OR and ENB share many effects like Depth of Field and Ambient Occlusion, so consider disabling such effects in either one or the other. OR's MemoryManagement makes ENBoost redundant, and running both at the same time may cause problems. Disable MemoryManagement if you'd rather use ENBoost for whatever reason.".

Edit. Another suggestion I saw in a reddit post suggested this "I recommend starting with a minimal setup, everything disabled in the ini, then add what you need/want.".

Edit2. the author of the linked guide also has a Oblivion.ini guide which contains a section specifically for Oblivion Reloaded. It's linked below.

https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/articles/44297

Hope this helps.
