Ok so I am sure you have all seen the object detail fade sliders in the launcher. I am equally certain you have ALL seen the CHECKBOX that says "object detail fade".... Does anybody know what the heck it does? Does checking it impact performance, or does un-checking it impact performance?

Seriously the whole entire internet has no answer, or at least any part of it that can be found with Google... Everywhere someone asks about it nobody knows, in fact some topics have went dead because someone wasted time thinking they meant the sliders. So for the sake of avoiding misunderstandings what does the CHECKBOX, NOT the sliders, do?

I know this is old but I just wanna post a straight answer for anyone else who stumbles onto this page.

Checking the box will fade distant objects in and out instead of having them just popup instantly on your screen. Performance wise all I can say is, I don't notice a performance hit when checking it.

There is a small performance difference, and only a small visual difference.

Checking the box will cause small objects and details to fade out of a scene when you get far away. Leaving it unchecked will result in very slightly improved graphics, while checking it will give you a very small performance boost.
