UnholyShadow
This is my last post on this topic, because I am sick of debating with people. I find it funny that you are getting so angry over so little. To get in a heated debate with a 15 year old is quite amusing to me. Calling me a brat was somewhat immature and comical. Maybe my comment was misplaced, and maybe I misjudged you, and for that, I am sorry.
Ethre
Would everyone mind cooling down a little bit? People (from both sides, don't think YOU're excluded) are getting at each others throats, and I don't like to see that in such a nice forum. HomeGoods
I'm a white woman who has a passion for history. I'm just going to say that long before I actually listened within the full context to what Wright said, I could have and in some cases have said exactly the same things. He got a tiny bit carried away with himself once there, but for the most part everything in his sermons that I heard, was absolutely historically correct. History, it's the Bomb! You should forget what you learned in school, and what you hear on the CBS evening news, and people on the radio say. Go to the library and get books about actual history from many different perspectives. Tell me what happened on 9/11/1973. Why does that matter? Tell me what happened in 1953 in Iran? Tell me, What is the Sykes-Picot document? Well that's enough for the moment for you to get where I'm coming from, I guess, it should keep you busy for a while if you actually do your homework. I don't gossip, myself, and when I have made friends with neighbors, in the past, with people who come over and try to run my life for me, I balk. I eliminate those people from my life, and it happens in the blink of an eye. Oh, you don't think my husband treats me right? You need to get out of my house and get the blank down the road. Don't come back. I didn't ask for your opinion. This is a classic trouble-maker's ploy, usually said by someone who would like my husband for herself. So she causes trouble, and if we take the bait, she's sitting in the catbird seat to move in on my man. This is just a classic example of how this works, that you've probably seen in action. See, it's not for you to decide what I do, or how I run my life. I'm the captain of this ship. End of. The problem with the US is our government has a tendency to get involved in everyone else's business, on the pretext that we're trying to help, but there are always strings attached that benefit the "US interests" rather than the indigenous societies where we interfere. And like me, those societies get resentful when our so-called "help"-ful policies result in their further impoverishment, as our companies nee "interests" are making all the profits from the resources of their lands. This has gone on for years. In this new dawning age, it's now being done to us, it's called outsourcing, but it's not being done by foreign governments so much as by our own runaway corporations. It makes you angry doesn't it? The trouble with capitalism is it has too many capitalists. -- Herbert Hoover . . . . . . When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous, and its speaker a raving lunatic. - Dresden James . . . . . . "It would be extremely naive to expect the dominant classes to develop a type of education that would enable subordinate classes to perceive social injustices critically." Paulo Freire . . . . . . "The corporation is not a person and it does not live. It is alifeless bundle of legally protected financial rights andrelationships brilliantly designed to serve money and its imperatives. It is money that flows in its veins, not blood. The corporation hasneither soul nor conscience." - David Korten, The Post-Corporate World My lady, I must confessed....I'm really impressed about your knowledge in history, hope more people will read your post... Cynster
As for the issue of terrorism, specifically Middle Eastern terrorism, the only way to defeat it is by completely leaving the Middle East. That means no bases (especially in Iraq and Saudi Arabia), no puppet regimes (which includes no more military support for Israel), and no defending private US interests (that means no retaliation if a KFC gets bombed in Damascus). I couldn't disagree more. Isreal is our strongest ally and they are surrounded by people who want to wipe them off the map. Leaving would be the most selfish thing we could do. By leaving all of our interests and bases, terrorism has acheived its goal. And we've been doing such a good job, why abandon everything? It doesn't make sense. And what about Osama Bin Laden? Just up and leave there too and let all the women get terrorized by Al Queda? The US needs to grow up and get a backbone to its unpopularity. People are always going to hate us. Conforming to the rest of the world's inaction is wimping out and letting everyone else control what we do. That doesn't mean we don't need to work out our issues (which we do) but it means to stand up for the little guy when the rest of the world turns a blind eye. Cynster
on the slight matter of allies, Britannia is Americans greatest ally has been for over 50 years. I personally do not count Israel as an ally, they more client kingdom at this point. From 1960s we have sent them countless millions, I believe right now figures are about 6 billion a year. What War in the last 50 has Israel sent aid in? After we stood up and told the world we support the idea of Jewish state of Israel. When no other would do so, I think just a few hundred soldiers or the act of trying to. Show some respect to US and not just take from us. Poland, Italy, Spain Denmark and most of all Britannia those are our allies. The Brits are right there with the US right or wrong. They are our combat brothers in arms across pond.. As American we forget who helps us gain our independence, France was there to help us. Give the Navy that we lacked, against the British. They give the statue of liberty as a gift of international friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States. Has anyone look at it like this. Why we have been attacked from 1960s on by these Arabic groups? There are more than one aspect of why the attacks on the US has happen. One of the factor that sticks out the most is our support of Israel. It goes back to what I said before, more or less we are bread and butter for Israel.I think they can handle themselves quite well actually. They alone fought all their neighbors from trying to destroy them and even expanded, way outnumbered. I think Britain has been a great ally, but at the moment, in my opinion, our greatest is Israel. The Israelites have as much right to Israel as the Arabs (based on history) but I'm not going to get into religion. Regardless they both have a lot of history there, and just because the terrorists are irritating with threats and bombing their own people doesn't mean we should be frightened into not supporting Israel. Especially when the terrorists hurt us. If you just walk away, they win, and that would mean more death and destruction.
