SirRFI
Hello modders, Before I make anyone angry - I have searched answer for following question a lot, but I have not found anything that would ultimately solve it, so I ask here (hopefully in correct section, if it's not - my apologies). So, I'll try to keep it simple: How do I edit vanilla or custom items stats, such as type / damage etc.? I have downloaded a mod adding a cool weapon, but I dislike some of it's properties and I would like to mess up with it a little bit - the question is: how do I do this? Except fact that I have to edit the data files somehow (where such information is stored), I also have to open and save an *.esp file. Please aid me
GileadMaerlyn
You have to download the creation kit.Load the esp of the mod in it, find your weapon, modify what you want, save. Edited August 18, 2012 by Gilead Maerlyn
SirRFI
I pretty much expected answer like this. Last time I tried this I managed to edit the weapon's file, but then I didnt seem to work in game. I'll try once more tomorrow.
Javalin
With the Modding, and altering of items, spells and all that good stuff. 1. Open up your Creation Kit. 2. Click "Open" in the top left. 3. You will have a window which will pop up. Make sure Skyrim.esm is selected. 4. Scroll down to the Mod you want, select that, and click "Set as Active File" (This will make the mod file you want, into the active file, any changes you make, will be to THAT mod only!) 5. Go to the Weapons section (It looks like a spreadsheet/Database on the left-hand side) 6. Click the tab where it says "Item Name" - This will allow you to put the whole database of items into alphabetical order. A-Z, Z-A etc. 7. Double click the item you want to switch. 8. Change the base damage on the weapon, or magnitude if it's spell - For changing enchantments, you will need to find the enchantment, which is usually in a different menu if i remember correctly. 9. Close the window and Save Try the mod again, see if your changes are sufficient. I would strongly advise against making items that do 50000000000 damage in a 999999999 radius
SirRFI
Actually I was doing something like this and I remember it didn't worked. However, I have just changed damage to my weapon to 100 (for testing purpose to see if it changed) and it worked. I think I had corrupted files before, as it was like 2 patches ago. Thanks for your help, it seems to be working. And no, I am not going to do overpowered stuff like that :P
Javalin
Good stuff. The only reason i say not to make something ridiculously overpowered; is because you will probably get bored of the game.. very quickly.
