I have a really stupid idea to try for "dual render scopes"

I know the game engine supports refraction, well (and I'm laughing at the ridiculousness as I type this) I'm wondering if it might somehow be possible to hack the refraction effect and then apply that to a see through scope so that it magnifies whatever you're looking at. I've noticed that the game's refraction already seems to magnify stuff to some degree, and I'm wondering if that could be exploited somehow.
