Fast Travel Crashing to Different Holds and Other Issues

Right as I'm aware there are multiple threads on multiple sites about fast travel crashes in Skyrim. Mine however is slightly different.

Since yesterday (18th August) I've been experiencing a crash to desktop almost everytime I fast travel. The exception seems to be when I fast travel a short distance within the hold region.

Fast travel outside the hold however, or just "long" distances causes the game to crash at the end of the loading screen. Thing is though it had been working literally two minutes before hand. Fast traveled to the Thieves Guild to give Delvin an item, talked to Mercer about Snow Veil Sanctum, used the secret entrance, tried to fast travel to Winterhold and....crash. I cannot explain it, I hadn't installed or uninstalled any new mods for about a week, so I have no idea what caused it. I can't even use the carriage service because it also causes the crash. If I don't travel there myself it won't work, and considering the game freezes at times, dragons are flying about and it takes a lot of time to travel from one end of the map to the other, sort of spoils the experience. if anyone could please give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated.

I would also like to know if there is anyone else who is experiencing missing certain Dawnguard animations and horse combat animations. I have no listed mod that conflicts with horse combat so I'm stumped. I also started a new save game as I read that that fixes the problem. It did not. However this is secondary, I am more conerned with my lack of fast travel.

Edit: As a side note I should mention that apparantly sometimes when I cross the borders from one region into another the game crashes, for example when I just traveled by horse from Winterhold into Dawnstar, where a certain burned body surrounded by fire is.

Made an account specifically for this post. I am having the same exact issue. Reinstalled my skyrim to be sure one of my mods hadnt screwed it up (though all of my ..10? mods have worked perfectly before). I crash whenever I go to winterhold, I get there, it autosaves for a few seconds, then crashes.

I could help you but I'd need a list of your mods and plugins to do anything besides make random guesses. Laura, does the save message actually go away before the crash? Skyrim might be making tmp save files then crashing before it changes it to the regular ess. That happened to me when my save file got really big but obviously I have no way of know if that's the case for you. You can just check your save directory to see if there are a lot of tmp's

Also in case you don't already have it Wrye Bash can point out the more obvious errors in load order and plugin integrity.

The only mod i have installed is "hermits treehouse" right now because its holding a bunch of my crap, but if it would help i could pick everything up, then do a complete reinstall again. I dont think i have any plugins installed, to be honest i dont really know what those are. When i fast traveled to solitude from whiterun it did not crash at all, but when i went to winterhold it finished autosaving and then crashed. I'm really not computer savvy, any way you could give me a step by step way of walking through the files to get to the tmp save files folder and what i do afterwards.

Well your save files are like this by default - Documents (or My Documents)\My Games\Skyrim\Saves\[the save files] and tell me the size of your most recent save games (please) I had problems in a different playthru when my saves got to 30 MB and up. I fixed by starting a new game =p - the Unofficial Skyrim Patch and a few other mods address the bugs that cause detrimental save game growth, although not retroactively unfortunately. If you use NMM just go to the plugins tab or look in the Data folder of your Skyrim installation and look for esp and esm files. Also you should uninstall the tree-house mod and test fast travel (turn off autosaves first or back them up if you want) just in case that's what's causing problems.

If you only have one mod installed then there should just be Skyrim, Update, Dawnguard if you have it and the tree-house esp/esm whichever. It's probably not save file size issues unless Hermit's Treehouse is the most horribly coded thing ever. Also you could check your game cache if you have Steam but I just have a retail copy of Skyrim so I wouldn't know how. Try Google.
