sgman1
Hey guys. Anyone here that used the latest version of Wars in Skyrim right before the Author took it off and left? I only managed to use the first incarnation of v4.0 and I wanted to know what new features he had added and if there is any way to recreate these with other mods that might exist now? I personally didn't like it because of all the broken NPCs that weren't defeatable even when you had maxed out your defense and offense and having to use cheap tactics like hit and run where as they could just rush in and kill, especially with mods that increased damage output for everybody such as deadly combat which was good for fighting vanilla NPCs but borked these dudes. But seeing a recent thread hail it as a great mod made me think that I might have missed something, other than these broken NPCs, that was present. Those are the features I want to know (as of v4.0) and if any mods could possibly recreate them.
RaycerX
Well, I pretty sure the reason why the modder stopped and removed the files was because he was getting burned out. Also, from reading past topics, (to paraphrase) people who worked with him mentioned that he was attempting things with no real clear aim or ultimate goal. I have War in Skyrim 2 and stopped downloading after that though so I can't comment on the NPC issues.

sgman1
And that's what is exactly bothering me. That's why I'm assuming I missed something because everybody keeps saying the author was the greatest Skyrim modder around and this mod was like one of the best around. What exactly was it that was so great? Because as far as I am concerned the main purpose of this mod was to have a different spawn system with new creatures such as the Tundra troll and tougher enemies but it's not like there aren't other mods out there that do this and possibly better. I say this because all of the new NPCs and creatures that were added were horribly broken as if the dude did not take into mind the highest difficulty users which made the game just with WIS really easy against vanilla creatures and NPCs once you had maxed out but next to impossible against his personally created ones, especially the damn heroes and villains. I'm just bothered by not knowing what was so great when I found it really game breaking.
gasti89
I was in the WiS team since the 2nd release, and i'm currently one of the developers of the new WiS V version. In my opinion the main thing that brought this success (and all the haters) is the fact that it was the very 1st overhaul. Alexandrox did it with just skyedit, before the CK release. For some time (i think 1-2 months) it was the unique overhaul around the Nexus (there was PISE before, but it was more complex and less "whooooaaaa" so casual modders didn't use it). Another fact was the extreme support from the team. There was always at least one member online answering questions. Also the fact that updates were coming in 3-4 days had a key role in the success. The total modularity was a good reason too. One of the main reasons i think was Alexandrox's fantasy too. Lots of new creatures in only a few days, many many tweaks and plugins. But all the above reasons brought the mod to the total ruin: - Lots of mods with less features but more optimized and focused ones came out - Compatibility issues started coming up and many many users weren't even able to correctly install a mod - The fact that he was working alone - The lack of beta testing - The fact that the tools he used became obsolete and sometimes game breaking (e.g. TesVNip), so the need of a total rebuild of the mod - The pure trolls on the comments tab Concluding, i think WiS was like a Pop-Star. Everyone loved it, but if you ask around noone knows why. Imho the only mod that is attempting to this is SkyRe (but with different goals). To have all this kind of ovehaul you'll need some mods, like MoMod, Warzones, ASIS, Deadly Dragons etc. Or of course you can wait our new WiS V release ;)
Brinemobee
for me wis made travelling skyrim more fun then finding a dungeon. i had realism mods, no fast travel, etc. and would just travel around skyrim, getting ambushed, running into necromancers fighting off vampires, or forsworn fighting the imperials. but it was like a ton of miniture warzones. it got crazier and harder to install/play with heroes/villans and not completed/tested creatures. but the core of it is a must have
