Just switched from Mo2 to vortex

Recommended Posts

It took a whole day until I finaly finished installing my mods in vortex and I have to say it was worth every single second

I dont know what exactly is causing this but the game runs insanely smooth compared to MO2

Didnt even know Im able to reach 300 FPS and but there you go. Mid game from 20~30 FPS up to 50~60 and while in MCM my FPS goes up to 300 (yea those 300 FPS will make a lot of diffrence in the MCM)

The game starts up a lot faster too. I think Mo2 took about 2 mins until the game starts Vortex does it in less than half a minute

I always wondered which mods I should give up on to get at least 30 FPS but guess switching to Vortex solved my problem in the best way possible

However, Im a bad person and cant post this.. post.. without some critique.. yay!

Its only about QoL and I didnt really have any issues getting started with Vortex but I love keeping things as clean as possible. Vortexs mod list is.. well.. quite messy. While the categorizing mods (and being able to make own categories) is fantastic to order them properly Im still kind of lost where my mods are

MO2 gave me the abilty to create seperators and give every seperator a diffrent colour (my MO2 mod list is basically a shiny rainbow). I wonder if a system that allows me order my mods would be possible .. or assign a colour to a category (or perhaps it is already there and I just dont know about it, me dumb)

Less of a problem is that in Vortex I have to.. merge mods manually. A perfect example to this would be Pfuschers texture packs (skyrim SE). In MO2 It was easy to just merge them all together while installing them, Vortex created a seperate line for every pack. I didnt have any issues doing this manually but... ye... Perhaps being able to drag and drop a mod to merge them in vortex directly could make things a lot easier

.. I think thats it.. .. .. feels unfinished.. sigh..

...so thanks a lot "people that are creating vortex"... < that sounds stupid. Im bad at saying thanks. Yes. Im done now, my pardon

No idea when it comes to FPS, but at least for startup of game then yes, MO2's virtual file system does put an extra overhead. Example, Ultimate Skyrim v4.0.3 running off SSD takes 50 seconds in Vortex and 76 seconds in MO2, meaning roughly a 50% startup-overhead.

As for colour-coding, on Vortex mods-tab you do have the "Highlight"-column (not sure if it's shown by default, if not click the gear on the far right on mods tab to add/remove columns). With 11 different icons + 9 different colours to choose from, you can create 98 different icon/colour-combinations (not counting the default). The Highlight-column is sortable, but not searchable. Note, you can only select a single mod at a time and change icon/colour, meaning if want to do this for all mods it's a time-consuming process. Also as most things in Vortex, this only works for installed mods (but they can be disabled).

As I said no idea why my frame rate went up like that after switching. Maybe I did something terribly wrong in Mo2

Vortex definitely helped me increasing my fps. Right now, I don't really care if it's because of Vortex itself or simply because the way it handles things. Im.. just .. satisfied..¿ (wrong word)

Thanks Rattle, I'll take a look into this highlight-feature tomorrow!
