ranokoasmods
So long as the programs are free i can get em, nif scope, gimp or whatever and all that jaz. And if its on piratebay then i can download it for free regardless the actual price BUT Anyone know a good tutorial that helped them out tramendiously, that is very informative, very clear, isnt a million hours long and if so then i guess it cant be helped? I have a million great ideas for new weapons and armors that can go into a great mod.. but i am handicapped with the ability to make them. And i dont want to bug someones time by making it a request. Any help would be greatly appreciated by me, and hopefully the people who download the mod =) Thank you for taking the time to read this; may the Nine guard you in your travels, Elijah. Cynster
I'm in the process of making new clothes/weapons and I haven't found a single tutorial that helped me completely. I have had to pick out the information I needed through google searches of tutorials. Your best bet is to google search what exactly you are trying to do at the moment and keep doing that. For example: Importing Nifs into Blender/3ds maxExporting Nifs out of Blender/3ds maxBasic moddling in 3ds max/blenderBasics of NifscopeAs well as searching how to create "whatever" in "the program you use" for "oblivion. I've noticed that there are more blender tutorials than 3ds max and they aren't as complicated either, but for me, 3ds max is easier to work with. Brewbeard
I've also had some difficulty finding any sort of comprehensive guide to modding for Oblivion, but here's some tutorials that helped: http://faqs.ign.com/articles/703/703873p1.htmlhttp://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article2255.asphttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=123http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index...s_with_NifSkopehttp://lhammonds.game-host.org/obmm/tutori...ctive_metal.asphttp://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread?t=26280http://www.bencloward.com/tutorials_normal_maps1.shtmlhttp://www.alys.org/gallery/CuteUnits-Rigg...de-for-Oblivion Most of these involve Blender as your primary 3d modeling software. I can say with 100% confidence that all of the tools you require for making Oblivion mods can be had legally and for free, and while learning a commercial program is extremely useful, supporting their predatory licensing models is counterproductive. ranokoasmods
Thank you VERY much! This is most useful, and while yes i was thinking i had to resort to pirating, please dont think ill of me as i am actually not very fond of it. BUT some companies just jack up their prices way too much! Who wants to pay 700 BUCKS for a finale program to make music! Its rediculous.. and just my example lol. Anyways, Thanks again this was most helpful! ihateregisteringeverywhere
The prices are jacked up because the cutting edge companies don't have competition. If they do then they just buy it with the vasts amount of money gained from those riddiculous prices. It's a vicious cycle of monopolitary behaviour(And yes, I'm looking at you autodesk!! :glare:). And the only thing that could possibly solve that is boycoting such products. But that's never going to happen. Mostly because the cutting edge companies are cutting edge for a reason. Palpenious
Not sure if it was mentioned above, but Echos blender tutorials (videos) can be downloaded on this site, and are pretty easy to understand. They are also geared a little more to Oblivion (obviously) than some others I have found, but then that's if you are using Blender.
BossDweebe
There is no short or easy way to learning how to make meshes or textures. The learning curve on texturing in The Gimp is probably less step than Blender,as you can point an click your way around in The Gimp. Cut and paste, smudge and air brushetc. Not so with Blender The Gimp also has an extensive help file that you can downloadand add into The Gimp. Don't forget to also download the DDS and DDS normal mapplugins for the Gimp.
