Mods don't work

Here is how to properly install a mod (without Oblivion Mod Manager). If you have done this, then I don't know what's wrong.

Extract any archive files to a temporary folder. Then, move all files to your ...\Oblivion\Data folder (if the archive included a Data folder, then just move it into your ...\Oblivion folder). If ever the computer asks you to overwrite a folder, click "Yes". All it's doing is merging the contents of the two folders into one. You aren't actually overwriting anything.

Then, using your standard Oblivion launcher, open the game, and when the little menu pops up (if it actually goes into the game, then you've used the wrong launcher) and click Data Files. All of the *.esp files you moved into your Data folder are now present here. Check their boxes to activate them.

Did you extract the contents of the compressed download and move the files to the appropriate locations in the Data folder?

Did you remember to move and activate the .esp file in the Data Files menu?

Are you attempting to use mods that require Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE)?

Does the ReadMe page specify any conflicts with anything you are already using?

Does the ReadMe page state that the mod requires other downloads to function properly, such as items or files from another mod?

Does the ReadMe page specify that you must begin a new game?

Do the mods contain items that appear corrupted or have other negative affects such as being colored purple, giant exclamation marks or question marks, streaks or lines across the screen, invisible body parts, etc?

Are you trying to install mods on a PS3 or Xbox360?
