m_gobes
this may be because sometimes in real life you find keys that serve no purpose I kind of have a collection of keys that I started. probably about half of them I haven't found a use. someinteresting places that I have found keys though are beside flower pots, beside chests, on people(obviously), on the ground. other places too but I can't remember all right now. It may have been that they were just made to make people wonder or there may be hidden locks. I'm not sure which but I'm guessing they made a bunch of extra keys cause some dungeons have 4 or more of the same exact key when there is obviously only one lock for the key. I hope this was helpful.... if it wasn't you can always PM me or e-mail me and yell and scream at me. ^_^

cmac
There are no pointless keys- keys on nearby NPC's or creatures usually open a nearby locked door or container. There are several keys that are on select skeletons that do not obviously open anything. They actually open a crate and chest Toddtest. There is a key that is used in a Thieves Guild quest that doesn't open anything, but the PC needs to turn it into the questgiver. There are many 'Small Keys' because there are many different containers- there's no way each key could have a unique adjective name. @ M_GobesThere's no such thing as an extra key. See my above first paragraph.
Kay-z
I have another question regarding keys is the thing with small keys the same thing with simple keys as well or is there a difference ?
Malchik
Are you really asking that Kay-z? There are loads of keys with different names and each opens something, small keys, rusty keys, daedric, ancient daedric, etc. etc. Sometimes they open more than one lock but most don't. m_gobes
i should clear something up with my post way towards the top I wasn't exactly meaning pointless keys I was referring to times when many people have exact copies of the same key example in a smugglers cave 4 people have one key each all 4 keys are alike therefore 3 are "unnecessary" they are more realistic to have them but only one key is necessary. That's kind of what I was trying to say but was too lazy to type it all out. Sry for the misleading.
Malchik
I suspect that is because some players may avoid killing smugglers (too weak or consider it more fun to get the slaves out from under their noses, whatever) so there will be at least one key lying around. They are not always easy to find without 'detect key' and for those who can't be bothered at least one is found on a smuggler. I don't think there are many cases of there being more than two keys. Sometimes it may also depend on how you reach a place - if there are alternative ways to go there may be keys in each place. (Mzuleft ruin has at least four.) If you have to rely on Tower Key that can only be used once a day you would need to find the key in the room you chose to open. Anyway those are just a couple of thoughts. Does anyone know how many different keys there are in the game?
m_gobes
I'm on that it'll only take another 5 years to find out how many... lol actually I'm just interested in seeing how many keys there are since they weigh nothing it's not a prob to pick up. Loumbas
You can actually go in the construction set and get a complete list of keys by exporting all the data in excel (which is what I did). In fact thats waht I did about EVERYTHING in Morrowind so I have a complete list for all weapons, arms etc. It is my noble ambition to collect one of EVERYTHING in morrowind though for now I dont bother much for pots and pants etc (though I steal and sell them to tradersso that in the end I can buy one of each). Anyway, back to keys you will have a problem since many have the same name but you see their id next to them and you know if they are different and even where to find them. The problem is that in the game you cant tell which is which. :innocent:
