magik49 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Hi, I'm trying to modify someone's face in GECK face advanced tab. The problem is that when I select 'Geometry' as a control type, 'Symmetry' as a symmetry type and when I try to for example change Brow Ridge to a different value (by clicking set), GECK automatically changes my value (and every other value). I'm trying to copy someone's face so I need exact values. I tried to copy this face with this auto-adjustment, but the faces are too different.Any help would be appreciated.
GrindedStone Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 You'll have better luck if you use the in-game shape sliders. Though there are conditions to this. First never change the skintone sliders. Not any of them. It's a waste of time an will only throw those off balance. The Vanilla Skintone sliders all match better than anything you will ever create. So you see it's a time saver to just ignore them completely. Instead first you can use a zero facegen texture data string. Some of the NPC's have them, although mostly they are unused. It's a line of zeros in hex 00 00 00 00, but you need the right amount an it's different between male an female sometimes. This will only apply the race facegen data or base, thus allowing you to draw directly on the texture itself or adjust it instead of the facegen. 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00Facegen is the 2 base hex strings for shape an texture, this is further adjusted with 2 more hex strings stored inside the NPC. Races use NPC's as presets, which is a flag set on the NPC entry. You can name these NPC's whatever you like, and the settings for them can pretty much be anything, because it's only using the facegen data. This is why FO3 facegen won't work in New Vegas, because they use different race base hex strings. It's also why it's so hard to use the GECK to create a new face. Besides having a endless amount of slider control, there's also a large amount of unused tools/data in there for you to waste your time with. With FO3 edit you can select the 20 NPC's that are presets for any of the races, then copy them as new entries, which will create duplicate versions that are not related to anything in the game. You can duplicate a race too like this. Change it an edit it anyway you like. Then it's a matter of changing the NPC's to use the new race. Hispanic shapes with Caucasian skintone or the otherway around. Sometimes it works well, the easy way to locate a more usable base shape. The in-game sliders are limited to the amount they can adjust. However you can swap out one of the hundreds of premade strings into these NPC's to get a different result. Further any good looking NPC in the game is up for grabs as a base shape to start with. Once you adjust it they won't look much alike anymore. Once you have the base shape in the preset, then you start the game an adjust it. Save that face (as an adult lol) Then you can export that hex string from the savegame with a extractor that gives you the hex data. The tools are on the nexus. Here's one for FO3 You'll also notice that some in-game sliders will move other shapes sliders down or up, do that to hack the face. Move it way past to get a little more room on another slider, adjust that one, then move the first one back so it looks normal.
magik49 Posted August 23, 2012 Author Posted August 23, 2012 Thank you very much for help. FO3Edit is exactly what I need :) I had only one problem. After copying FaceGen Data I couldn't find any save button or tool strip so FO3Edit was saving the files while it was closing.Unfortunately it seems that there's a bug in this program and saving in this way corrupts something, because I tried it at least 5 times on different examples, but always I couldn't load any savegame and GECK was crashing when I was trying to load Advanced Face tab.Fortunately I tried to save using CTRL+S shortuct and it solved my problem :D
