Rinia
Hey there all I'm a big ole newbie, so please excuse me if I sound too much like one :) I am playing a witchhunter and I'm lvl 7. what exactly are soulgems for? I keep finding them and can't really figure out what they're for. Also, is it too early for me to go in search of vampires, etc? Thanks in advance :D
MDH Weaponeer
Simple. Go to the Mage's guild in Balmora and buy soultrap. Then, go find some soul gems. After that, go find a creature, attack it with soultrap, then start killing it. If the animal is killed while soultrap is effecting it, it's soul will go into the gem. You can use soul gems to enchant items and make them do magical stuff (like fire damage). Note that buying a flamesword (or whatever you're after) is MUCH cheaper than enchanting the sword yourself. I find taking all the soulgems I can get and soultrapping tons of rats is an easy way to get thousands of gold at the start of the game.
Rinia
Wow thanks! I have a sword already that casts soultrap, so I guess I just need to get some soulgems.
mcstreet
also since you already have soul trap you're almost garanteed to capture the souls...and you dont just use the gems to make weapons...you can also use them to recharge you weapons and items wen your charge goes down....... also full gems can make quite a bit of money if you find the right buyer
Malchik
As for going after vampires, you need to decide in advance whether you intend to become a vampire at any point. If you do, I'd be inclined to become one and do the vampire quests first and kill vamps after you have been cured. There are a lot of good item available from the vamp quests that you won't get any other way.

With my level 8 crusader I stumbled into the Berne stronghold and died right after seeing the word cattle pop up on my screen lol. I would wait, for many reasons, until well past double digits to go stirring it up with the Count Chocula wannabes. Besides, you dont want to get infected with vampirism at a level so weak you will die doing their quests. Wait until your around the 13-15 range unless you have an overall high HP. Dagger of Symachus
What are you talking about? Maybe I just know where to go, but in the first game I had (class, dunmer battlemage) I managed to destroy the entire Quarra Clan at level 11. So you don't need to be that high level. If you have bad items then you should wait until level 15-20, but if you have really good equipment (actually I just had one good ring that helped me suck the life from the undead :D ) then you can take down vampires at level 10 or less. Malchik
Again, I would add that these statements about level are heavily dependent on where you have set the difficulty slider. DoS (slightly unfortunate acronym there) what setting were you playing when you flattened Druscashti at level 10?
Dagger of Symachus
I was playing my original Morrowind for Xbox instead of GotY version so it was at a difficulty setting of 0.
