PixelSmut
Thank you to anybody who takes the time to look over this. Well my question revolves around the best way to go about making diverse scars for npcs and such. Basically I'm just beginning to mod, so I'm not completely sure the option out there for me to go this route. I can change textures easy enough, but then everybody has the same scars it seems. So my main question, is there a way to randomly assign one texture from a group of different textures to npcs? And also if done, (and Im assuming this would be a problem to creep up for me) would the textures randomize constantly or stay attached to that NPC for the duration of play. That would be my preferred method, if there was a way to do it correctly. But as an alternative I've been tossing around an idea similar to when modders do body suits for hairy chests ect. Just making an item that can't be removed from inventory and place it in npc lists, so it randomly generates 1-2 scars on maybe a quarter or half of the wasteland npcs. That sounds like the easier route, although I'm sure it will have its fair share of kinks to work out. Any tips or suggestions are welcomed with thanks. :)
nivea
Well you could make several different races and assign each race a new face/body texture, now all you need to do is go through NPCs and change their race to the new ones or make new NPC and add them into the Leveled character lists.I personally was playing around with making equitable tattoos and scars, and placing them in level lists but I lost my steam on it. I think both ways are equally good or bad, the first option is by far the easiest because you do not need to deal with meshes or alpha textures but its less diversity in the end. The other way means no issues with NPC and tons of diversity because you could add multiple scar types (chest/face/ect) but then your limited to the slots you use and its more work with meshes and textures. Also keep in mind, bodysuits will not be seen when they wear armor or clothing that shows skin of any kind. So the only time it would be seen is when they are naked. PixelSmut
Thank you for the tips! I completely didn't know that about the body suits, so thank for saving me some time on that! :DIt just seems unrealistic to me that people wouldn't have bruises or scars so much, It's actually for a bigger mod, I just figure one step at a time and try to release the smaller things like this since I have no uploads yet. Out of curiosity also, is it best to release everything as stand aloe or should I go with a bulk pack? I'm working on two lore mods with this as well, Im not sure if I want to release all 3 packaged. This one and haunted Soldiers (Going in and adding about 30 Ncr npcs who are haunted from the monstrosity of the Legion), both effect npcs, the other one adds new holo's, notes, and things from pre war, like the ransom note in the Bison Steve. Should I separate all three or package the first two and leave the third stand alone? Or all stand alone? I'm mostly worried about MOD compatibility, although I feel a little more secure since everything is mostly new. And if I go with the race route I'm assuming it would be a good idea to get permission and do retex of some of the more popular mods like type3 and breeze for compatibility. Sorry for all the questions. =o
nivea
I would release things separate if you can, options are always the best so long as it does not put a huge amount of strain or work on the modder. Some people may want your whole mod, others may just want the awesome scars/tattoo/armor/ect that your mod includes because perhaps the larger mod conflicts with something or isn't lore friendly to them. But like I said only if it does not inconvenience you the modder to do so, if it would then do not bother with it. As for the bodies, it depends on the mod your useing. The BASE bodies are all free use, if you want to retexture or edit or make clothing its fine. Its if you use someone elses retexture you need to then check up with that author. All free use:Type3:http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/34825 Breeze:http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/35451 Robert:http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/39880 If you have questions or somthing feel free to drop me a pm. OneBoredBoredKid
I'd love to see something like this but I'm going to try and steer you away from going down the whole "make a new race" path, because i... well, just because people make them and it renders existing NPC body mods incompatible as I found out. Here're two mods which manage to seamlessly add masks and eyepatches over any kind of face type no matter what body mod the player is using: Foxsens Eyepatches http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/41729 & Cables Clown Masks http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/44339 I'd suggest figuring out how they managed to make the items merge over the face mesh, then do the same thing for facial scars and in theory that should work perfectly. Plus it can let players give the scar items to NPCs and give them scars too :pirate:

Not sure how well I can reverse engineer, but it's worth the try for sure. Thank you for the tips and links! I need to take some time and work on this tonight, so far today all I've accomplished is bashing my head against the keyboard several thousand times while learning 3ds Max. -lol-
