KeiranGinge Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Hi, just wondering if it is possible to "bundle" mods together and re-upload them to skyrim, for example,(if you make a player abode with mod armor inside) combining said player abode mod and said armor mod so that people installing the player abode mod do not have to separately install the armor mod. Cheers In Advance
Deleted4547977User Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 it is possible, but you must asking permission to the author first. try to check "permission and credits" of every mods that you use don't forget to add credits and add links to original page
KeiranGinge Posted August 25, 2012 Author Posted August 25, 2012 (edited) Yea, I obviously would get permission first. How exactly would I do this? Edited August 25, 2012 by KeiranGinge
gasti89 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Write a PM to the author or an email. Something serious, just in case you'll need to prove that you got them. Also, if your bundle will get lot of attention and popularity, it's better if the author giving permissions writes the same message to the admins too.
KeiranGinge Posted August 25, 2012 Author Posted August 25, 2012 And after I got permissions how would I bundle mods?
Deleted4547977User Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I don't know, maybe use Wrye Bash to merge that mods?
bben46 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Bundles (AKA Compilations) look like a great idea, however, from years of experience with mods, modders and users we have learned they are actually nearly impossible to use and maintain. For the makers stand point: Getting approval from every author is not easy. Many popular authors have already been through the bundling nightmare. The REAL author doesn't get any REAL credit - saying "I credit xyz for this mod" is a completely empty statement - It does not increase his download count at all. And does increase yours. The official credit, download count, kudos and endorsements ALL go to the wrong person. And nobody wants someone else getting credit for their work. - (And NO, we cannot change the way this works as it is hardwired into the site code) If there is a bug in any one of the mods - and the original author fixes it - you will have to redo the entire bundle or forever be stuck with that bug. If an author makes a new version to his mod - same thing. If an author stops supporting his mod - you get demands from users to fix your bundle. Many modders will refuse to allow their mod to be included in a compilation. Others will not reply to your request (you MUST have their permission to use their mod. No answer is a no you cannot use it) From a users stand point: If any one mod conflicts with other mods he has, the entire bundle must be scrapped. If he doesn't want one of the included mods, the only way to get rid of it is to scrap the entire bundle. If he wants to update a mod included in the bundle he has to scrap the bundle and redownload each mod by itself. If there is a problem, the only way to troubleshoot is to consider the bundle as a single mod - meaning he will likely just scrap it instead of trying to figure out which one of however many mods are included is the one causing the problem. And if you have more than a few big mods it will be so huge and cumbersome that it will choke just trying to download. And the main reason you might not want to do this - bundles (mod compilations) have been forbidden on The Nexus because of the problems they cause between bundlers, real modders and users. Instead, make a list of the mods with links to the download pages and include a load list that worked for you. That way You don't have to deal with permissions as you will be linking to their uploads. Users won't blame you when things don't work. (Actually, they will still blame you for recommending those mods) There is no problem not using some mods in your recommended list, adding mods that are not included or upgrading mods that have new versions.
