ARahimi
I'm confused on how to make a clean stable load order. I'm using the new community run NMM, I have LOOT, FO4EDIT, Mator Smash, Merge Plugin, and I had 235 mods which I have cut down to 170. Mostly removing heavy spawn and script mods and useless weapon mods. I keep encountering CTD's and save bloating around the 30+mb margin. I figured the script mods were causing the most issues, I tried to use Real Event Log Viewer and found a lot of repeating scripts, and removed those mods. I am currently resetting my Data folder and removing lingering mods, and re-verifying the integrity of my Fallout 4 Install. I just want to know what process and steps are to making FO4 stable. I've watched a ton of videos on how each utility works on their own, but I don't know what comes first. Do I resolve conflicts first? Do I merge plugins first? How do I efficiently resolve conflicts? I apply the conflict filter in FO4Edit and get a huge red list, it's overwhelming. Any advice would be appreciated.
dragonslayer2k12
World editing mods are gonna bug out your saves too after a while. All those weapon mods with quests that require you to go somewhere and find something and also those evil CC mods like captain cosmos for example cause some bugs I think. Do you have the unofficial patch installed? Also don't forget that sometimes the unofficial patch team screws up too like they did recently with that pentacostal church bug in the glowing sea that prevented anyone from going down into the church with some invisible barrier that wasn't there before, or the MM castle fight quest defend the castle I think it was. I think there was some kind of a list somewhere that showed how to manually assemble a load order like what kind of mods would go first and what kind would go last and so on but I can't remember where that was. ARahimi
Any information on modding is all over the place, nothing is consolidated, things change, more efficient methods are found, so I don't know what to look at anymore. So mods like the G36C cause issues? How can I resolve that issue then? I want to be able to use these mods and complete playthroughs finally, I haven't completed FO4 since launch because the game becomes this CTDfest that wastes time. I just need to know the steps, do I resolve conflicts first? Do I merge plugins first? I'm using mostly cosmetic CC content. I don't use their power armor stuff. I do have Unofficial Patch now, I didn't before, but decided since I'm nuking my playthrough I may as well add it in since it seems highly recommended to fix issues. I'm aware it has issues of its own, but I'm told it's better than vanilla. Which again I have multiple sources telling me different things. dragonslayer2k12
Well... at least you don't have scrap everything installed hehe:-) True storms and sim settlements are two big mods that cause problems for people. I remember reading somewhere about the differences between an interior and exterior cell and why many people complain about how slow the game is when going from exterior to interior. Something about how interior cells are much bigger in a certain way which causes problems for the game and it is actually better to be in an exterior cell mostly for better performance. Just that one thing could screw up a heavy script load like the kind of script load generated by sim settlements or any other huge mod that does scripting. I noticed you don't have any settlement mods like sanctuary or starlight for example so the problems you have may be related to load order but from what I understand it is not something LOOT could address since it doesn't work too well. I'm surprised you don't have a mod like CWSS somethingsomething redux installed. Great way to drive yourself crazy worrying about taking a s#*! and a shower exactly every eight hours. I asked the mod author once why they couldn't change it to 12 hours and all they could say was it was scripted in as if that meant nothing could change at all. Even worse, since the toilet and shower effects are also scripted in there is no way to get those effects to work correctly with placed showers and toilets in a cell so they can't put bathrooms in major npc settlements like diamond city. This game is a real pain in the ass to deal with for modding let alone just playing it. Anything that affects shadows can really drain your fps and it seems setting shadow detail to medium helps a lot even if shadow distance is high. I get CTD too usually from throwing a molotov at anything or trying to set off more than three remote explosives at once. This happens more often in an interior cell for me and also if I throw a molotov at an oil slick on the ground trying to set it on fire and burn up nearby enemies. Having a computer with a high performance processor helps a lot compared to a big fancy video card which means the game is more cpu dependent. I had my rig overclocked to get 4GHZ out of it and went back to normal trying to get some stability then noticed fallout 4 ran like crap afterwards. I didn't think 600mhz would make that much of a difference on my old potato rig but it does. Try this just to see something for yourself, turn your computer off if it is on then turn it on and get the game going. Bring up task manager and note how much memory your have and how much of it is listed as "free" under the performance tab. Then run the game just to the menu screen for about a minute and then exit the game and check that performance tab on task manager again. See the drop in free memory and how it doesn't go away? that is what fallout 4 does it eats memory and won't give it back. I don't know for sure if it is windows doing that or fallout 4 or both and it sucks. I play the game a certain way so if I get a mission from MM to wipe out the raiders in corvega I get it done then save after exiting corvega and then exit the game restart my potato and get back to the game. I try not to play it for too long so it can't find a way to crash on me. I also have to turn off auto save because that too can crash the game even a vanilla game with no mods loaded. There is a way to clean mods one mod at a time with xedit. You have to copy the xedit EXE file and rename it slightly then paste that back into the xedit folder and run that file to auto clean mods one at a time. That helps a lot because some modders don't know just how shitty and sadistic the CK really is. I really do think a genuine psychopath or two works for bethesda. I will try and find that document that describes how to manually sort load order and post it here when I can.
ARahimi
I have a pretty good system, but Ill lower some values just in case. For the record, my last save file was 6 days worth of time, and I hadn't even found Nick Valentine yet. Just explored, built settlements, and stored items in boxes. I wonder if having many items in chests and many settlements (Not fully maxed out or anything) are more my issues than the CTD's. I'm not sure what to clean in my Xedit. I made a smash patch, and cleaned up any world space or cell conflicts and left everything else alone. I may scrap True Storms in favour of Settlements. IDK why the load order didnt show, but I actually do have CWSS. I just turn off the buff and dirt effect, and just use it whenever I want to feel immersed. I shaved my LO down to 144 mods/plugins total. Going to test it now, removed a lot of fluff mods and stuff that didn't really matter in the end, like CROSS Gorehaul and Enhanced Blood Textures with the Twitching and Blood Pooling. In the end I want to finish my playthroughs FFS, This game just isn't stable enough to handle excessive modding, and I'm not really understanding merging or patching all that well. ARahimi
So Sim Settlements apparently takes my 5mb unmodded Starting Point to 17mb?? That's hefty, and on top of that, removing it took it down to 7mb. Also removed Truestorms.
ARahimi
I put back TrueStorms and the new modded save is 6mb. Looks like a good size and I don't believe it'll hit 30+ this time. Smash was rebuilt, will just have to test it out. 141 plugins and no merges.
dragonslayer2k12
Yeah sim settlements can really slow down the game. I won't even try to install it myself until I get a new rig but I can't justify an all new rig just to play fallout 4. I'm kinda waiting to see if starfield sucks or not and if we get something else to play too this year.
