  1. 1. Do you think it's fair for training to be so far into the main storyline?

Power Armor is a huge part of the game and there are multiple variations of it. I haven't really found any armor worth getting that can even compete with it or have any real impact. In Fallout New Vegas they had many armors that were good and could hold their own so they seemed to fix the problem in their newest installment of the franchise. But because in Fallout 3 there really is descent armor in the original vanilla game, would you say that the training required to get this armor is too far into the game? I think it is because (excluding all dlc content btw because that's not NEEDED in order to play the full game) you are so far into the main story line that unless you purposely put off all the game content besides the main story line until the end there's not much to do after you get power armor training. You do a couple more main story quests and then boom the game ends sorry make a new save file and restart your game. Really? Any time I start a new game, i'm forced to go through hours of main story in order to just obtain power armor training so I can enjoy the rest of the game in some good armor.. It doesn't really seem fair to me. (Again i'm excluding all dlc for this topic so don't mention that you can get training in the original game by completing the Anchorage simulation, I already know). Am I alone in this way of thinking, or does anyone think so too? Please let me know your opinion! Thanks for reading :)

The Riellys Rangers Combat Armor max DR is only 1 less than the T-45b power armor and the standard encalve power armor(39 to 40) so that can give you enough protection for most of the game. Also metal armor dr is only 4 less than the T-45b and enclave power armor.

Also if you want to use Power Armor so bad just cheat for it with player.addperk 00058fdf or SetPCCanUsePowerArmor 1

Cheating for me in sandbox games is counter productive...I play the games to have fun and getting the best weapons/armors before I even leave the vault with console commands is simply useless. What's the point of even leaving the vault if I do that? Might as well get the ID for the best unique weapons in the game while i'm at it and be unstoppable with the MIRV and a thousand nukes with the best power armor too lol >.>. And yeah Riellys Rangers Combat Armor is good, but again that's a unique armor that's not easily found and the metal armor is good too you're right on that..But still you'd have to get to at least Rivet city to buy that from the merchants, and I haven't seen it that frequently. So 2 armors (one of them being from a mini quest and the other pretty rare too) is all the armors in the game that can compare to the power armor? There are more versions of power armor than there are different types of armors that are worth getting lol...seems a bit unbalanced to me.

Standard combat armor is 8 less than power armor and the lag-bolt combat armor from broken steel is 2 less(but pretty pointless as you have access to power armor by then) but nothing else is really close after them. I think the order the makers intended you to with armors is Armored Vault Suit -> Raider -> Leather -> Recon -> Combat -> Metal -> Power Armor.

As for acquiring metal armor if you have a good morality character you can get it pretty early on by killing Leroy Walker the leader of the of slavers who have occupied the Lincoln Memorial and you can get a helmet at the top of the Washington Monument. So you can have the full set pretty early. Crow also sells it quite often if you fully upgrade his caravan.

EDIT: Another option is to keep investing in the toughness perk (perhaps picking it every couple of levels) then you DR will be boosted so high you can ware what ever you want
