usprivateer
Okay yes, been here before with this problem. Looking for some pointers from folks on how to solve this. Black screen and odd graphic anomalies. I have been through all the threads and notes on how to solve the nVidia black screen. Tried them all. No dice. My black screen can happen outside as well as inside. Today, just outside Bruma gate. This problem appears to be solved by turning off HDR. No black screens, but still get the graphics anomalies on occasion. Here are some pics.Pic 1Pic2 Note that the second shot can also occur outside as well. Again, deactivating HDR appears to eliminate the black screen and cut down on the anoms. I WANT HDR. It looks so great. Why can't my card do it. It isn't a heat issue as the unit sits on a cooler and is actually spitting out only slightly warm air out its exhausts. Interior has been cleaned as well and looks good (ty for suggestions on that). This is a custom built gaming laptop from WidowPC, only about a year and a half old. Specs:AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 Dual Core Processor 2.6 GHz2GB Crucial RAMnVidia GeForce Go 7900 GTX (512MB VRAM) I need to know what settings in the nVidia control panel I should use and any other tips or suggestions techheads out there have. I SO want to use HDR. When it's on for a few moments, looks grand. As I understand it, my system should be able to handle it with no problems. Waah. I want a pony too. :wallbash:
usprivateer
I know this problem is a real pain in the 4$$!Try this mod:http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17947otherwise try googleing it and you should end up with a manual that tells you to modify the shader settings in oblivion.ini (im not sure)Cheers! I tried the Black Screen Fix Updated, no dice. In the readme it says that it occurs indoors. Mine will occur outdoors as well. Shaders? Seriously? Where would I go to look my stats up on shaders?? catmagnet
Well... throwing in some random info here, never really bothered to find out more about it as I don't own any nvidia-card atm, but there's an option in wrye bash under 'tweaks assorted' when rebuilding the batch called 'Nvidia Fog Fix' that's supposed to deal with black screens. You may want to try that or maybe look it up in the dokumentation. Again, I have not the slightest clue if this is really related to your problem, but you seem rather stuck and... well, maybe it helps. Who knows? Not me 8)
Varus Torvyn
There are some files you need to delete that are telling the 7-Series nVidia GPUs to do a function that it cannot do, thus results in a black screen. The deletion will not break your game - this fix comes from Kivan (Unofficial Patches) himself. The files are named "Cobweb.nif". XP folder location is "C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\Meshes\Misc

Not me 8) The Nvidia fog fix for Wrye Bash is easy to use. You select all your mods using Wrye bash and right click and go to Nvidia Fog Fix and it'll fix them automatically. Almost all esp's involving an object, a creature, a weapon, an armor, has a chance of a fog problem. Only most tweaks and mergeable esps don't have this problem. Wrye Bash is a great utility for a ton of things. Check it out.
usprivateer
Thanks folks on the replies. I'll start working my way through some of these. I have been using Wrye's stuff since Morrowind years ago. The Wrye nVidia fog fix has been performed on all mods since I started playing. No dice there either, ever. I've seen the cobweb fix posted before, I guess I assumed that since I've been having this problem in places where there are no cobwebs at all, that that wasn't it......?? Should I try it anyway? Thanks again all. -USP
billypnats
that looks more like a problem itself with the GPU... I get that sometimes with ATI cards, both X1950pro and 4850
