nofo04
Hello, This will likely seem like a stupid question, but please bear with me, I'm a beginner with this stuff. I'm downloading a bunch of mods and there have been a few instances in which I've downloaded a patch for a mod and not known what to do with it. For example, I downloaded the latest Martigen Monster Mod and got the file MartigenOOO.esp which I plan on using, and then I downloaded the patch and it also came with a file with the same name ("MartigenOOO.esp"). . . So, I'm wondering (noobishly) what to do with the second file that I got with the patch? Do I use it to replace the first or do I run them both in the Oblivion mod manager, or what? I can't seem to find any info in the readme to explain this, so any explanation I can get here would be appreciated. Thanks!
kraigor
if you download a patch first install the original then just copy everything from the patch to where the readme says and click yes to all teh replace file things the new esp is the upadated version of the old one so the original mmmforooo.esp thing is older and not as uptoddate as the new one you got in the patchedit: yes you do use it to replace the original unless the readme it came with says otherwise

With patches, install the original mod file then install the patch file over it. I highly recommend using Oblivion Mod Manage (OBMM) to install ALL Mods, to patch a file with OBMM just create a new OMOD file containing the patch (will be red or black) and install it over your already installed mod. I have written a beginners level guide for installing a full FCOM convergence game it has a TON of info in it which will most likly seem overwhelming, just take your time and read through it slowly, the guide was written to help & educate new modders. I think the guide should help you ALOT if you are new to modding, especially if you want to add MMM which is the most difficult install out of all the FCOM core mods in the guide. Just go the TESNexus files area and search for "Install Guide" If you wish to install MMM with out FCOM follow the MMM install section of the guide but DO NOT do (step 4.7.3.q) where you delete a bunch of MMM files you will need to read the mmm readme file and determine what version of the main MMM esp file to use. Good luck & happy modding
