DrakkTheSurvivor
Hi all, I was on version 0.17.11 and everything was amazing. I love the Vortex mod manager and love the product as a whole. I was getting for the last few days (maybe because I decided to start playing Skyrim again (for the 150x).. and it was poping up with a "new update available" and I kept postponing it because I really just wanted to play and not bother. Today, I clicked on "download and install" from Vortex... The worst decision ever. So the install went for a very long time (several hours) until I checked it and it was disapeared. From my task manager I could see Vortex was using up 50% of my CPU, but nothing was in my taskbar or no form of window. I decided to kill the process using task manager "end task". Then, when I tried to open Vortex, it did the same thing, meaning it doesn't show up anywhere, but it's in my Task manager. So I let it run for 1 hour and then decided to kill the task again. Then, I decided to go to Add and Remove programs and uninstall Vortex from there. It ran for a minute and it was not there anymore. Rebooted the PC and then tried the install from fresh, went to the site and downloaded the latest version 0.18.6 and ran the installer. Same thing happens, the window Vortex disapears and nothing, but i can see in task manager it is taking up 50% of my CPU. I killed it, went back to Add and Remove apps and uninstalled it. Then ran CCleaner to remove orphaned dlls and whatnot. Rebooted my PC. Deactivated Windows Defender, then started the downloaded install again and the same thing, the Vortex install window appears briefly and then disapears and i can see some activity in the task manager. So, then i decided to add and remove apps to uninstall it, ran ccleaner, rebooted and then decided to reinstall 0.17.11 and it worked. But when I launched it, it said "the last version you ran was newer version, if you continu to run this one your computer will explode", so I said yes continu, then it said "are you sure you want your whole family to die in agony and continu?" and I said yes of course, and then it crashed with an error message of coding of some sort. So now, my situation is that I have no more Vortex at all, cannot manage my MODs and have no clue how to fix this. Previous working version : 0.17.11 Upgrade version: 0.18.6 Windows 10 pro 64 bit Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
DrakkTheSurvivor
I see that there are a lot of open topics on a daily basis and I can understand the difficulty of my situation, but guys I'm at a loss here. I don't know how to recoup this scenario. If anyone can hint me on some stuff, I would really appreciate it. At this point, if I can find which hidden folders to delete and what to do with my games (Skyrim, Fallout 4), let me know, I am desperate. Also, if anyone else has the same issue, please give me your version. I've read a few that had similar "hanging" Vortex upgrades, but I have not found any solution to this problem. DrakkTheSurvivor
Guys? No one has anything to propose to me? I'm just without Vortex and that's the end of this story? How can it be? Please? Anyone?
BigBizkit
Hm, I'm afraid your situation is quite unusual so we have little to go on. It seems that it might be more a case of the updating functionality malfunctioning than a Vortex bug per se. I've relayed your thread to the devs. Could you make your vortex.log and application state available to us? That would be everything that's in %appdata%/Vortex/state.v2 as well as the Vortex logs in %appdata%/Vortex/
