Rideable Polar Bear

Alas, tis true... :( During the walking animation there IS a frame where the character drops into the bear. Although, it works just fine while running, which is what I'd probably do most of the time anyway. But you're right Gastley, it is a bit annoying not being able to walk with the bear.

Which makes me wonder... If there was some sort of SIMPLE saddle of sorts on the bear, would that be enough to keep the character from falling into the bear? I'm guessing it'd have to be anchored to the bear's skeleton or something... (But I don't have any idea what I'm talking about...)

And I still wonder, is there a way to get the bear to act like a minion? Follow, Stay, Attack, that sort of thing?

The riding animation is not affected by collision, so extra collidable (real word?) mesh would not help. At some point i'll figure out how to edit the .kf file in Max, and fix it (there's an extra bone rotation in one key frame that needs eliminating), but my own need is bypassed, so it's lowered priority for me.

I didn't make a saddle as my "original" didn't use one, but a bridle is still on my potential to-do list. However, a bridle is an addition point where the mount has to match the rider, so it gets left out as difficult to do right at present.

P.S. the screenie you've seen does have the bear in a happy mood, but when there's a monster on the road, unlike the horse, it attacks!! I really need to catch another screenie of that for the web page.

That's good. The Rideable bear is just that. I tried to get it involved with a combat, the bandit even just sat there and whacked it, but no reaction.

But hey, it's not made for that.

But your bear sounds closer to what I'm looking for, in the long run. At this point, I'll be happy with a Rideable Polar Bear of any sort!!

the rideable bear mod works, and it works well. only problem i found was some clipping with your legs when you are mounted on the bear. but for some reason when i retexture the mesh using nifskope the bear becomes unrideable, when you click to mount it the camera angle changes for a second like it does when you mount a horse normally but then nothing else happens (you dont actually mount it) all i did was open the nif, change the texture source and then saved it so not sure what the problem is :s

I don't know anything about all this stuff, but that sounds weird even to me. You didn't change anything other than the texture source... Sounds innocent enough to me. Wish I could help, or even had an idea where to begin. :wallbash:

I really appreciate what you're doing!!

If all you have changed is the texture path in nifscope there shouldnt be a problem with the mount.

Once all meshes and textures are in appropriate folders, changing +NiTexturingProperty -NiSourceTexture in nifscope should only change the look, not the behaviour of mount. Make sure the dds is the same name as the replacement also.

All ridable creatures use a special skeleton.nif to distinguish between ridable and none ridable (bones Bip02 not Bip01)

I suggest you make sure the correct skeleton is still selected in the Construction set (CS), and while in the CS make sure the ridable bear still has the Idle animations set up, as That will probably be your problem, though cant see how the esp would have been affected

edit - If you fancy a read to sort out your problem check out http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index...dable_Creatures

Did you try to edit the old nif or try again?

No, realy, dogeese is perfectly right. Loosing rideability because of something so meaningless as selecting the NiTexturingPropperty, right clicking, selecting Texture>Choose from the sub-menu and selecting the texture simply isn't possible. You most propably did something else or did something wrong. The bear should actualy remain fully functional even if you got the retex completely wrong and only got a purple texture in-game.

Also, did you create the rideable bear in TESCS from scratch or did you edit an existing one? As it hapens editing something functional is always the safer bet.
