Falshire
Has anyone ever heard of an unused data removal application for Fallout 3 /FNV ?The esps are easy to remove, as are bsa files etc. But what about the rest of the unused mod...textures,sound files, meshes etc.As these become bloatware in the game..by using hard disk space, has anyone thought of developing an application to check which data files are no longer needed. Guess that kind of app may be problematical at best in removing used data. Any thought or ideas.Guess this question would also apply to Oblivion,Morrowind and Skyrim. bben46
That is one of the underused functions in Wrye Bash. It's called ghosting. This was added when it was discovered that Oblivion actually read every mod in the data folder, whether it was used or not. And when the total number of mods (used + unused) reached around 400 it would crash. I haven't seen a similar problem in FO3/NV/Skyrim yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is there. The Wrye Bash ghosting function hides unused mods from the game. Personally, I move unused mods out of the data folder and into a holding folder outside of the game. Since NMM, I download all mods manually into a custom folder outside of NMM control, then use NMM to install. I don't have to move them at all, just use NMM to delete the mod. It will still be available to reinstall from my custom folder at anytime as NMM does not touch that folder. - This trick only works if you use NMM to install the mod. If you use some other method to install, NMM will have a problem with uninstalling it properly.
