Skyrim crashes

SO I made myself a Nexus account after seeing all the amazing mods I could get for skyrim. Before that I only ever used steam mods because well, they were far easier to use and install. I unsubscribed from all but 2 steam mods and went on to install Vortex and some mods. Watched a few videos to get the basics done and over with so I could play Skyrim an test out the mods. Nope, I go to open Skyrim and all I get is a black screen until it finally crashes. I made sure the mods were enabled, looked for conflicts which I fixed, and then I go to LOOT to order my mods, to which it says that no changes were made, assumably because they are already ordered fine. Only noticeable problem is that many of my mods say "This plugin needs update.esm to be installed but its missing." The hell is update.esm? It doesn't give me any clear instructions to download this, whatever it is. And I can't seem to find it either. I spent a lot of time installing everything and watching videos to make sure I wasn't screwing anything up, though it seems that I did anyway. What am I missing? How do I get update.esm?

You best start here:

https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/7332636-how-to-post-request-support-for-vortex/

You will at least need to give us all paths you are using. That includes downloads, mods, and game.

Update.esm is part of the game, from Bethesda. You can see it in your game Data folder.

And you don't run Loot separately. It is built into Vortex.

Do run TES5Edit. It will let you know if you have any missing Masters. It will also show you what mods it thinks you have.

Also: You must have a legal copy of Skyrim. Then:

"You get update.esm through Steam, by choose "verify integrity of game cache" and allowing the latest 1.6 patch to download."
