DaedricBard
I'm sure this is basic ignorance on my part, so I'm hoping some knowledgeable users can educate me... I have a pair of buffed ebony swords that have been my default weapons for months. But I noticed a couple days ago that it seemed to be taking longer to off enemies than expected (e.g. 6 hits to kill a dragon vs. 2 hits). When I checked my inventory, those two swords' damage numbers had both dropped from 143 to 85. Same weapons, same enchantments, same player skill level. I'm just curious as to how those damage values are calculated, and what might cause them to spontaneously change. No, I do not have any mods that degrade weapons, AFAIK. The only new mod I've added recently was Sasha's Gear (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/23957), which adds some high-stat armor items. Armor can't affect weapon damage, can it? DaedricBard
Answered my own question. It was Sasha's Gear that lowered my weapon stats. Removed them from my inventory and all my weapons increased in damage. Guess that mod's getting retired.
thumbincubation
Weird that it would do that. Did equipping Sasha's gear cause you to unequip something that had buffed your one handed damage, by chance? If so, you might be able to disenchant the item and place it onto something you can still use, like a piece of jewelry.
DaedricBard
Verified that it was an enchantment I'd placed on Sasha's Gear, specifically a +40% one-handed buff. As soon as I unequipped Sasha's Gear, my weapons' stats went up. Re-equipped another enchanted ring that also gave +40 one-handed, and the stats went up again as expected. I wonder if it might be an overflow issue, meaning adding to the weapons' damage results in a too-large number that then rolls over to a negative number. Maybe Sasha's Gear is just too overpowered to begin with. The idea was I could choose my followers' armor based on the coolness factor without regard to stats. Dragonbone armor is great, but rather ugly on girls. Fortunately, I found another solution, which replaces the dragonbone armor for females to something more feminine.https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/23155
thumbincubation
It sounds like the 40% on Sasha's gear wasn't taking effect. Was it on one of the pieces that normally accepts 1H enchantment? I think it's neck, ring, gloves, boots? If not, maybe that's why it was dropping with Sasha's but increasing with an equally powerful enchantment elsewhere. Evangela
Enchantment bonuses, etc, anything that is properly set to increase weapon damage is all added to the base damage(the multipliers are applied additiviely) +40% is +40%... so maybe there is a mistake in the setup. Maybe it is reducing instead of increasing as intended.
DaedricBard
Thanks for your observations. Perhaps I should ask the question on the Sasha's Gear page. Can I throw out a more general question? What's the highest damage value you've ever achieved on any weapon? I've seen mention of crazy high damage values in videos, but despite maxing out my smithing points, using smithing potions and enchantments, I've never gotten anything over 200. Not that I need it; my dragonbone maces knock down anything that gets in my way. I'm just curious.
thumbincubation
I can usually get in the neighborhood of 200 out of a 1H sword, with full smithing perks. That's to include 4 pcs of smithing gear, enchanted with a max enchanting skill and all relevant perks, and using a potion made with maxed and perked alchemy, as well as alchemy gear. I have a hard time remembering the base damages, though, because there are usually fortify one handed enchantments in play as well, and it shoots up even higher. I suspect the crazy high damages you see in videos has to do with either direct modification or the restoration loop. Smithing and Enchanting can allow for a person to obtain some pretty broken equipment. It's cool at first, but it gets boring real fast and starts to make little sense, at least to me, where I can 1hit legendary dragons. DaedricBard
35,000??? Yikes, that would surely take all the fun out of the game. Why not just make God Mode an enchantment? Or even better, just watch somebody else play the game in a YouTube video while you move your mouse around and go "pew! pew! pew!"? I had the most fun at level 10 with a hunting bow and scavenged iron arrows. That at least required some strategy.
