How to install .nif mod

Prevch

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I am attempting to install the following mod into SSE: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/97543

The download is simply a .nif file. I downloaded the NIF optimizer, optimized the file, and then created a customer .7z file with the following file structure:

data > meshes > thanos.nif

my understanding is that the mod is simply a nord preset when creating a new character, but it did not load as a preset.

Clearly I am doing something wrong, but I am not quite sure what it is. Any guidance you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Not my strong point, but it looks like the author just created the mesh, but didn't put it into the game via creation kit. You would need to create a mod, with CK, in which you create a new preset, and point it toward this nif.

Here's a short tutorial on this, but I cannot speak to its accuracy or if there's an easier way. http://wikitest.nexusmods.com/index.php/Creating_a_custom_race_for_Skyrim

If you're not familiar with creation kit, here's something to get you up and running. Note that it covers both Oldrim and Special Edition CKs. Make sure you're getting the right one for your game. There's a link at the top, for the tutorials hub, where there are more common tutorials, and there are a bunch more that you don't see. Use the search box at the top right, to find what you need from there.

This is a RaceMenu preset. It's not very obvious, since the author didn't include any instructions and didn't package the file to put it in the right place. However, RaceMenu is listed as a requirement and the mod is in the Character Presets section.
  • Make sure that RaceMenu is installed.
  • Place the .NIF file in: Data\SKSE\Plugins\Chargen\. Do NOT put it in Presets\.
  • Make a new character or use the "showracemenu" console command.
  • Go to the "Sculpt" tab on the top-right.
  • Press F9 to "Import Head".
  • Select "thanos zerohexer.nif".
I haven't tried this one myself so if the eyebrows are weird, then just disable the Brow mesh completely. Custom heads usually don't need a separate brow. Edited by Grospolina
