Always makes me hoot with laughter when we get this lofty disapproval of skimpy armors, considering that a lot of tribes have in the past and do now fight naked or very near naked. Even in Britain, the wild Celtic warriors greeting Julius Caesar frequently wore very little more than their woad and a ferocious grimace (yeah why DO we have blue painted Nords in TES Games, that was a Celtic not a Nordic thing....)

It also grinds my gears every time I see full coverage tin can armours described as "realistic" or "lore friendly". They are, if anything, far less realistic than skimpies. By the time we Brits got to royally owning our neighbours over in France repeatedly during the Middle Ages (another reason for my thoughts on Skyrim crossbows being PFFFFFTTTT ROFL...)as well as fighting amongst ourselves during the Wars of the Roses, we had also got preached at a bit and had taken to putting some clothes on to go into battle. Full plate was simply never seen outside the tiltyard. If you were wearing plate, you would not have been able to move without your trusty steed. If you were unhorsed wearing full plate (which could be pierced by an arrow fired by an English or Welsh longbowman anyway) you would not have had time to heave yourself off your back before the lightly armed peasant from the opposing side had managed to shove his pointy stick down your gorget and kebab you. That's why even royalty and nobility, fighting mounted, would wear a plate cuirass and leather or chainmail greaves. Absolutely no way could you steer a horse with your legs (the hands presumably would be wielding some axe, sword or mace)in a battle situation, if you were wearing plate greaves. In the tiltyard you didn't need to steer as you just charged a straight course. But even that was hazardous - Henry VIII was almost killed in a fall in the tiltyard by the weight of his armour.

So yeah, this female says yeah for the skimpies! Admittedly in my Maid Marion playing days I did not wear a leather bikini (far too many midges in Sherwood Forest, they bites us, yes they does....)but as I was then a willowy thing I did have a fetchingly low cut leather jerkin and tight leather pants....

I didn't care about revealing cloths Up until I noticed mods like The "DIMONIZED UNP female body, and Coverwomen", and some of the pretty custom races...

They just make the game better. Now it's fun to to follow my character from behind just so I can watch her butt :D

The "UNP - Bondage - A MashUp by Nightasy" Armour is one of the better ones IMO.

However I pretty much play in 1st person most of the time, but when I want eye candy it's nice to know she's there :)

I don't really care if people use skimpy armour mods but I do think they're rather ridiculous. Most of them just look like some sort of idealised porn version of armour which does make me raise an eyebrow or two at the motivations of anyone who would use them but, you know, if you want to get your rocks off to a bunch of pixels on the screen, that's your lookout. Different strokes for different folks and all that. I prefer my armour to look more realistic and to be realistic to what kind of character I'm playing. My s&b warriors wear heavy armour (though not the dwarven armour, that looks too bulky and huge to be realistic), my sneaky archer/thief rarely wears anything other than leather armour and my mage wears robes (covering robes because dammit, Winterhold and the College are way up north in the snow and ice so she doesn't like getting cold!).

Grinds my gears! lol.

I would just like to say that it really bothers me when people bash the skimpy armors as a whole (not that I'm saying the OP was bashing). Some people seem to have this idea that the people who make and the people that enjoy skimpy/sexy type female armors are immature prepubescent males and that's that.

Truth is, a lot of the sexy/skimpy outfits are made and used by females as well. I would just like to see an end to the stereotyping of these mods. Each mod is different. Some are good, some are not so good, and that's the way we should be lookig at it.

[snip]

Thank you for posting this. It's a seemingly rare bit of logic that I've been answering threads like this with for years, it seems (in other RPGs). Fantasy heroes get to wear what they like... just as they get to take fire breath, bone-pulverizing impacts, and massive crushing forces and yet shrug them off. Armour is not nearly as effective as people seem to imagine.

Not being a girl, I will add that I've known quite a few female RPG players who have no problems whatsoever with the general sexualisation of fantasy females... not that the same thing isn't applied to fantasy males anyway. And in my experience, most girls are much less preoccupied with the issue than the usual prudish/snide (in denial) crowd.

+1 for beefcake :)

Seriously though, I like to play female characters when the option is available, and though it it can be disheartening searching for armor if your character isn't the type to wear a chain-mail bikini, there is stuff out there. And to everything else? Whatever floats your respective boat. My current khajiit is running around in the Barbarian armor from Lore Friendly Armors, which I suppose could be considered skimpy (and certainly not very protective in the chest area), but it suits her.

If you were unhorsed wearing full plate (which could be pierced by an arrow fired by an English or Welsh longbowman anyway) you would not have had time to heave yourself off your back before the lightly armed peasant from the opposing side had managed to shove his pointy stick down your gorget and kebab you.

:D So true and well put.

After reading Ginnyfizz's post on which I totally agree, it did remind me of a story I know for some reason.....This is so very much not Skyrim related and I hope the moderators forgive me for this transgression please?.....But I just HAVE to share it considering these posts...I think it may be quite appreciated by many a woman on this Forum.... ....:

Is an exert from a book : 'Women Who Run With the Wolves':

"General Eisenhower was going to visit his troops in Rwanda....it might have been Borneo, it might have been General MacArthur. The Governor wanted all the Native women to stand by the side of the dirt road and cheer and wave to welcome Eisenhower as he drove by in his jeep. The only problem was that the native women never wore any clothes other than a necklace of beads and sometimes a little thong belt.

No, no, that would never do. So the Governor called the Head man of the Tribe and told him the predicament. "No worry", said the Head Man. If the Governor could provide several dozen skirts and blouses, he would see to it that the women dressed in them for this one time special event. And these the Governor and local missionaries managed to provide.

However, on the day of the great parade, and just minutes before Eisenhower was to drive down the long road in his jeep, it was discovered that while all the native women dutifully wore the skirts, they did not like the blouses and left them at home. So now all the women were lined up and down both sides of the road, skirted but bare breasted, and with not another stitch on and no underwear at all.

Well the Governor had an apoplexy when he heard and he angrily summoned the Head Man, who assured him that the Head Woman had conferred with him and assured him that the women had agreed on a plan to cover their breasts when the General drove by. "Are you sure?" bellowed the Govenor.

"I am sure. Very, very sure", said the Head Man.

Well, there was no time left to argue and we can only guess at General Eisenhower's reaction as his jeep came chugging by and woman after bare-breasted woman gracefully lifted up the front of her full skirt and covered her face with it."

Hope you enjoyed.... :)

Some of it I like, some of it I don't. I do believe in gender equality: if there's mods that make my female toon's boobs and bits fall out, then I want something skimpy for my guys, too :D

Otherwise, depends on my mood, roleplaying, is the gear attractive and not just skimpy, etc.

And come on, people, some players of both genders just enjoy the aesthetic, and aren't using Oblivion/Skyrim and mods for their Personal Free Porn Creation Kit.

I'm a guy. I'll post, anyway, reason being that I used to know a girl (since passed away) who was a tremendous Oblivon fan, and we talked about skimpy armors and were of a single mind on them. Here's what she would say, since it reflects my own opinions, as well.

I don't like many of them, either from an esthetic or realism perspective. Real warriors wouldn't wear something like that to a battle, because the skimpy stuff couldn't possibly protect them. Simply from the standpoint of looks, neither me or my girlfriend were into "showing skin", for either male or female characters. We play(ed) games to play games. If I want porn there's plenty of that available for free, elsewhere. While both of us used nude mods in Oblivion it was because the bodies and textures were better than vanilla and made people look more like real people than like they were chiseled out of cheese and colored with finger-paint. Besides, the modders of those bodies, which is what most of the skimpy armor is designed for, don't have a clue about the positioning of nipples on the breast and the upper body parts of those armors seem designed to display these misplaced body parts, rather than to protect them. It hasn't gotten any better with Skyrim mods. I'd rather see no nips at all than to see physical deformities on all the females in the game.

Frankly, I think some of the armor mods for females are just revealing enough to enhance the body mod and texture being used. Hey, I'm a guy. I like to look, alright? In fact, were it not for the fact that most of the male Jarls are so stuck up and morally-righteous, I could easily see them with harems of bodyguards in their palaces wearing such stuff. Skyrim is a fantasy game, after all, and I have to admit that such armors do belong in fantasy, even if they aren't exactly realistic or lore-friendly. And I'm with some of the other posters. If female characters have sexy armor then so should the males. There's nothing wrong with a little beefcake to go with my cheesecake.

In the end, though, this is a game and what some people hate other people love. Just because a skimpy armor mod exists for whatever body mod you're using, doesn't mean you have to install it. I'm currently playing a female character. She's adequately and modestly covered from neck to heels with a robe or with vanilla leather armor. She looks good enough in either of them to keep me happy, even though I'm not displaying anything naughty, although I could if I wanted to because the mod I'm using doesn't include underwear on the body model. Is my age showing, maybe? I'm actually a bit older than Frosty.
