ArwiaAmata
In the search for a custom face for my character, I decided to start from another face, and work it until it looks exactly how I want it to. So I downloaded the oblivion facegen pack (courtesy of Scanti), containing all the vanilla heads, ready for use in facegen. But as I started opening face files, I couldn't help noticeing that once you change the model set, the face changes drastically (which is obvious, actually...).The worst part about this is that when you photo fit an image, the fit is made on the facegen default model set, and when you import it in oblivion (by use of the facegen to oblivion converter, for example), the face would look off. So...after a long intro.... here's my ideea: Can anyone with sufficient skill in oblivion modding create a head for oblivion (.nif .egm .tri and all the lot...), that would look exactly like the facegen head (the one you see when you start facegen)? That way, anyone who would want to use a facegen face, would simply replace the head for that race (or create a custom one), and simply import it. Two more things:1. I hope there's not too much legal stuff involved that this would be impossible;2. And if there's a way to put the face as is from facgen into oblivion, while looking exactly like in facegen, let me know. (I already tried the options from the converter). Thanks for your time. Vagrant0
As far as I know, nobody has yet managed to create a new head which has its own new facegen morphs. Most of the heads that have been created have either been standard heads with static additions, or heads where just the positions of some points have been changed slightly. Your best bet would be similar to what you started with, trying to make the head in facegen look the same as the one in Oblivion, not trying to make the head in Oblivion look the same in facegen. Essentially see about altering the settings or resources in facegen to use very similar settings and resources that Oblivion uses. The face textures used by Oblivion HAVE to be from a straight on portrait, anything even slightly off to the side can end up making things look wierd in game. You may need to manually adjust the texture in photoshop or GIMP to get it to look right. You can always test the mapping by opening up the headhuman.nif in nifscope and applying the image to that model.
DogtoothCG
Vagrant, ThrottleKitty has succesfully made a new face mesh along with facial morphs
ArwiaAmata
Well....Facegen can export files....so it's just a question of exporting the default head, import it into 3ds/blender/maya/whatever, adjusting it to the oblivion skeleton, and optimizing it so it doesn't kill the poor computer... and from then on....i guess it should be straight forward.... I would have done it myself, but considering my expertise with 3d programs, tes6 would have came out and i would still be working on it.... humanbean234
One difficulty I've found in using PhotoFit in FaceGen to convert faces for TES4 is that the standard FaceGen head doesn't have enough polys/verts in the nose to be able to adequately handle anything other than an aquiline nose (just try getting a good .fg of, say, Walter Matthau, for example). The other difficulty is in finding good shots to use that have similar lighting, or are taken within a reasonable time of each other. As an example, here's a FaceGen of Angelina Jolie that was fit from a series of shots that were all taken at the same shoot, amazingly giving good front, profile, and 1/4 profile shots with a neutral expression. The original FaceGen-- That same FaceGen on Oblivion's Standard Head, and Throttlekitty's New Head-- It's close, but still not close-enough to satisfy some people.FaceGen handles a lot of its detail through the texture, rather than the shape. ArwiaAmata
Yeah... I did noticed that when you disable the photo detail textures in facegen, the face looks radically different. I guess that that is because there are some shadows in the picture that adds an extra 3d feel.Anyways, having the head from facegen in olivion would make it easy either importing .fg files in oblivion, or just letting you create your character in facegen. Also, more compatibility between savegames posted on the net.
ihateregisteringeverywhere
Is it possible to vertex paint the head? If so you could add such shadows np.
