beppo
Hi there! I'm new to the forum here. I've just started a new game with Oblivion (Beeing a devoted Morrowind player), so this is my first game with Oblivion. I started with updating and installing the Natural Invironments mods, an already there I got a problem :(The sky is purple, and " big yellow (!) " are showing up everywhere.... what wrong with that??? I just copied Sounds to Music, Meshes map to Textures and all the esp's into the data folder. Checked all of them in data files (just one natrual weater). But it doesnt seem to work.. Any ideas?? :( This is the only mod i've installed, and it doesnt seem to work.... good start here... Further, should I buy and install Shivering Isles and Knights Of The Nine right away, or wait until I'm a bit in to the game? Which mods do you recommend for a fresh start?? Should I install FCOM right away, or only OOO + MMM ? Hoping someone will have some tips for me! :) :thanks: // J
Deleted269910User
Have you checked that all the meshes/textures are in the right folders?(The folder structure should be mentioned in the installation guide.) The big yellow exclamation marks mean that they're missing a mesh, purple texture means a texture is missing. You should triple check that all the files are in the folders they're supposed to. Are you using the Natural Environments or Arthur Natural Environments v2 9 7? Also when you said there was only one esp file, it makes me think that something is wrong as both of these have 4 esp files that should be there. I think you've got a corrupt download or a 'partial download' which means you've only got some of the files, while missing the others. Double check your folder structure just incase and make sure you don't have 'Data' folder inside your xxx\Oblivion\Data folder.(I'll wait for more info from you, until I go into further details on this one.) As for SI & KotN, you might want to play the game a bit, but SI could be good to get before patching up, you can find all the patches here(Patching is not necessary if you've got D2D version of the game.); http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm Once you're done patching, you might want to install the unofficial oblivion patch and if you get SI, then the unofficial SI patch. FCOM isn't necessary on the moment you start playing and it may actually be fun to explore the game first a bit with minimal modding(Some people will disagree with this tho, trust me. ), but just having the bugfixes available. You did start modding the game rather 'heavily' if I may say so, most people start off with simple things like just getting a weapon and armor, simply to get familiar with the modding system used. Anyway, welcome to the forums, stick to the rules and enjoy your time here. We won't bite you...much... ~Elraine
Varus Torvyn
What X DLC X said. I noticed you wrote "Meshes map to Textures". Unless instructed otherwise, Meshes go in the Meshes folder, and Textures in Textures. Some mods - such as "Lost Paladin of the Divines" - have special folders (such as "LPotD") which the mod will look for. Careful reading of the Mod Description & the mod's Readme File will help you to avoid installation errors.
beppo
Hi again! Thanks for the info! But I did use quite a lot of mods to Morrowind, and that was never a problem...But anyway, i checked my Oblivion folders, and it looks like this: Oblivion -> Data -> MusicShadersTexturesVideo So, there was acrually NO meshes folder at all, seems pretty weird huh? I'm using the Natural Environment, around 15 mb loaded from tesnexus. And I unzipped all files to another directory first, just to see what files that where included. So I just put the new folders: Sound. Meshes, Natural Environments Unsupported extras under the "Data" folder under Oblivion. The readme says just to unzip to Oblivion -> Data. And thats what I did, just unzipping them to another directory first.... So I put the meshes folder under textures, and sound under music...was that wrong? There are 4 esp's as you said, I have checked them all, but still till yellow signs and the purple sky shows up.... ideas? For me it looks very odd that there was no Meshes folder from the beginning..?? Thank you so much for help.... If your'e kind I wont bite back...hehe ^^
Deleted269910User
Actually there's few of the mistakes, meshes is a completely separate folder from textures(same with music & sound), the basic look inside your data folder should be something like this;xxx\Oblivion\Data\Textures--->all .dds and _n.dds files/folders containing these files go here.xxx\Oblivion\Data\Meshes--->all .nif and _gnd.nif files/folders containing these files go here.xxx\Oblivion\Data\Soundxxx\Oblivion\Data\Musicxxx\Oblivion\Data\DistantLODxxx\Oblivion\Data\LSData(Actually visible for me, can't remember why I made it that way tho. Not used for any mods for all I know.)xxx\Oblivion\Data\Videoxxx\Oblivion\Data\Menus(UI mods use this.)xxx\Oblivion\Data\Shadersxxx\Oblivion\Data\obse(If you have it.) and there are several other folders aswell, this just gives a basic idea of what is where. The thing is that all mods are picky about the location of their files, any kind of mistake in putting them to the right place will give the missing texture/mesh 'error'. Once you know what goes where, just make sure the original folder structure from inside the zip file will remain unchanged. ~Elraine
beppo
I get your point.... my my folder system i fu**ed up in that case, I didn't even have a Meshes folder before I installed Natural Environments... This is how It looks now: xxx\Oblivion\Data xxx\Oblivion\Data\Meshes\NaturalEnvironments\(Sky+Wildlife folders)xxx\Oblivion\Data\Musicxxx\Oblivion\Data\NaturalEnviroments Unsupported extrasxxx\Oblivion\Data\Shadersxxx\Oblivion\Data\Soundxxx\Oblivion\Data\Textures\Effects (contains 1 dds file...)xxx\Oblivion\Data\Textures\Textures\Menus\Menus50\Menus80\NaturalEnvironment\Skyxxx\Oblivion\Data\Video This is exactly how it looks in my Oblivion folder, I just don understand what the fu** is wrong?? Where are all the texture files? And wy was there no Meshes folder from the beginning? In xxx\Oblivion\Data\Textures there are no dds files at all, just 2 folders Effect and Textures... I thought I'd find some files there... Why does it have to be so difficult...? copy - paste to single folders would have been great, just as Morrowind.. :( So where should I put all the files..? should I just copy them from N.E and put them in textues right away, without the N.E folder under textures? Hmm...complicated this poo...hehe
ihateregisteringeverywhere
You didn't have a Meshes folder because it's packed in a BSA file, same goes for textures, that's also why you don't see any in your textures folder. Most mods aren't packed this way and need that folder to function propperly because the OB engine is dependant on propper folder placement. Then again most mods have the propper dirrectory structure packed into their archives, and usualy only have to be unpacked into the data dirrectory. (Mostly because packing them the wrong way would be more work than not lol) I'm afraid that you've made a mistake somewhere between extracting and moving the files into OB\Data.
