Hi,

I have been away from Skyrim since Dec 2011 and I am ready to return with a new and improved graphics card!

I have a few questions regarding mods, as much seems to have changed. When I left there was no creation workshop on Steam nor was there any hi-res texture pack from Bethesda. Now when I start Skyrim it seems that all my old mods have been erased (I had A LOT of them) and there are none given to me as choices to Load before the game launches.

a) Can I still re-skin the entire game with hi-res texture packs found here on skyrimnexus? Is it still superior to Bethesda's Hi-Res pack?

b) Can I use mods from here simultaneously with mods from Steam workshop or must I choose a single mod source?

c) Are most skyrimnexus mods now found in Steam workshop as well?

I have a 2 gig GTX 670 that I have overclocked and I was really hoping to return and load up some of those huge texture files that my old 1.2 gig card didn't have the capacity for. Im really looking for the best most memory hungry texture packs to load up for the most eye candy possible. THANKS!

a) - I personally recommend this mod (Weapon texture replacer) and this mod (General texture replacer). They both make the game look much better, work together and are superior to the one Bethesda released.

b) - Mods from the Steam Workshop will work with mods on the Nexus as long as the mods themselves don't conflict.

c) - I wouldn't say most, but quite a few, especially popular ones are on the Steam Workshop as well as the Nexus.

If you want the best for Skyrim, then follow this excellent guide called STEP. It will take you a few hours to install everything, but the huge difference is definitely worth it!

You basically use the official HQ Texture-pack as a base, and let community-mods overlap it. I recommend to only download mods from Nexus, just to keep things organized and be able to give proper credits to the real authors. This is still where most mods are located.
