Okay, so you'll need a mod manager to begin with. Vortex is the supported one; read the documentation thoroughly.

 

As for mods, you should play with SKSE, SkyUI and RaceMenu or Character Edit to begin with. There are guides that can be searched that support different playing styles but the SSE Fixes and USSEP Unofficial Patch are must haves.
