ginnyfizz
Anyone else had this problem? I was merrily playing Skyrim earlier. No crashes, running sweet as you like. Tonight Steam decided to download a Steam client update as I tried to launch Skyrim and that seems to have rendered the game unplayable and corrupted it, with crashes immediately after the Skyrim logo.So I did what you do and deleted local content.I cannot reacquire it. The Steam servers are very busy apparently, which makes me think it has naffed up more games than just mine.Another totally unacceptable cockup from Steam. Anyone else have similar? ginnyfizz
Sorry for bumping this but I really could do with some advice. Steam is behaving REALLY oddly. I open it up and the Play button is available. But the game files are not in the folders as a visual check and NMM verify. So I ask it to delete local content again and then install, servers too busy. Anyone got any idea what to do? Install from disk doesn't seem to work as I get the same message that servers are too busy.
stabbykitteh
Had a similar problem at one point, though it was everything not just Skyrim. This worked (from Steam Support): Completely exit from the Steam client.Go to C:\Program Files\Steam (or the Steam directory that was specified during installation).Locate ClientRegistry.blob and rename this file to ClientRegistryOld.blob.Restart Steam to allow the file to be recreated.Test the issue once more. Darksider1013
I have updated myself, haven't experienced an unplayable Skyrim. Although I HAVE experienced a lack of sharing ability between the Steam app and any other app utilizing the network. I still don't have great DL speeds but while downloading, Skyrim isn't able to check for subscribed mods because Steam is DLing a game. This wasn't the case before. I definitely suggest deleting all content related to Skyrim, even any remaining undeleted folders, restart your computer, open steam, download a small file or small free game/mod, if that works, try Skyrim, if Skyrim still doesn't download, post to the Steampowered forums and see if anyone's got the same issue. ginnyfizz
I'm just so frustrated because I can't redownload the files, nor install from the disc.
Moraevik
Drem. Patience, Dovahkiin. From what I hear Steam is totally nerfed at the moment (I haven't checked this evening). My suggestion is to do what I do. Play Skyrim offline. I haven't had Steam enabled on my gaming rig since I got a forced 1.5 update upon installing Call of Duty: MW3. Maybe ... just maybe, Bethesda will come its senses with all the flack they've taken for tying their games to Steam and find a different approach to managing piracy. I can't say I particularly liked how they did it with Oblivion, either, but I've had little but pain from Steam with respect to Skyrim. Tame the Steam Monster and you'll be better off for it, and that means keeping it offline until you know its forced updates are actually working. Darksider1013
Speak of the devil, I just got a notification to update steam just right now.
ginnyfizz
But I can't install Skyrim, let alone play it offline! Oddly enough it would start to install on my laptop but that is NOT where I want it! I want it on my desktop where I have a mod setup that I like! Moraevik
Like I said, have patience. I've seen times when Steam was borked for fairly long periods of time. Keep trying. Sooner or later they'll get their act together and you'll have access to your stuff, there. Alternately, you can try to contact their technical support staff, although with the latest problems they've apparently been having those people are probably swamped with questions and complaints.
