Mods Suddenly Not Loading In

Skyrim LE

~170 mods installed

Earlier today I decided to uninstall the Vilja in Skyrim follower mod. I went about it as per the recommended method of the author (disable mod, wait 60ish hours in-game, uninstall mod). When I started the game after that, it didn't load any mod and started in a small window. There has been no error messages, just the prompt in the game that there is missing content. Even the DLCs seem to fail to load.

I've tried purging all the mods and re-deploying, restarting the PC, and running the game once through Steam rather than through SKSE on the Vortex dashboard (as the graphic settings were obviously reset). None of the above seems to have affected the game at all.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Hard to tell from your description which problem we are looking at. Is Skyrim still confined to a small window or did you get the resolution straightened out?

Contrary to what the author says, Vilja is a large script-heavy mod. There is the potential of breaking your save no matter how you uninstall it.

Start Skyrim using the skse_loader if you use SKSE.

At the Load screen, open the console and enter "coc qasmoke". This runs Skyrim with no save file.

Do your mods loadin this environment?

Another test for Deployment: Open your game directory and look in Data. Do you see your mods? If so, they are deployed.

Sorry for the bad description.

I can get Skyrim in normal, full-screen 1080p mode if I start via SkyrimLauncher.exe. However, the game will not remember the graphic settings the next time the game is ran.

I've been running the game through skse_loader as per usual, except when trying to sort the window out.

I can load into the game by using the coc command, but the mods are indeed not loading in, no MCM menu, no mod related items when using "help (whatever)" in the console.

As for the game directory, the mods do show up there.

Could this perhaps have something to do with uninstalling that mod somehow breaking skse?

From the game directory, run SkyrimSELauncher.exe.

That should bring up the Play / Options / Help window.

Click Options and set your desired resolution and full screen or windowed.

Click OK, then Exit.

Skyrim should remember your resolution at that point. This is probably necessary every time Bethesda makes an update.

Check {you}/AppData/Local/Skyrim Special Edition. The file plugins.txt is the list of mods Vortex gave Skyrim to run. Are your mods there?

Alright, that solved the windowed mode part of the problem, thanks.

The plugins.txt file only contains Skyrim.esm and Update.esm, nothing else.

Edit: My bad, it turns out every single plug-in is disabled. I don't know how I didn't realize that purging the mod list disables every plug-in.

Thanks for the help.
