US Restoration Mod

Given the lack of progress in my Continuance of the United States thread, I am stopping by to ask if there is any mod where the Courier can restore the United States, or join a faction that is working to rebuild the United States? Now this being a loaded question, let me explain: my character is a 20th century born vampire, and frankly she loves the idea of the United States as much as Nathan Vargas. However, the United States she wants to restore is not the US of 2077, but the US of 2050, the US before the Resource Wars, the US that you know and live in. She fell into a torpor as the bombs fell and now being awake, she's making up for lost time and being a Courier is her way of sizing up the factions, and seeing which ones want to or can be made to want to restore the United States of America. Ideally, she'd like to work with an NCR that sees the NCR as a provisional government until the country has been unified at which point, they will become the United States of America, complete with the 1789 Constitution. She would gladly work to restore the Enclave Remnants, provided they are ready to act like Americans and not Nazis (hey people change! And you can't judge a person on their faction.....after all my vampire Courier literally allergic to evil, albeit psychosomaticly not mystically).

The vampire thing is not important for mod purposes. I will take care of that. What I am looking for is a way to play a Courier who still believes in the promises and destiny of America. What options exist?

Given the lack of progress in my Continuance of the United States thread,

I'd like to check out that thread, could you link back to it?

I am stopping by to ask if there is any mod where the Courier can restore the United States,

I don't recall a mod quite as encompassing as your describing, but there is "For the Enclave" where you help a "more reasonable" (neutral, leaning toward good karma) faction of enclave that had split off from the main faction. It's activities mostly concerned helping the faction itself, with only dialog references to restoration. I tried it quite a while back and it may have progressed since then.

my character is a 20th century born vampire,

Just curious, a fantasy/mystical based vampire or a FO3 type vampire (mutant)?

Not much in that thread, but there it is.

Thing is, as for the supernatural stuff, there's always been outright hints that superntrual stuff is afoot. Pykers come off very strongly like this, Ghouls at times and then there's Carol's descriptions of how 'every evil horrible thing' came out of the DC survivors in the weeks after the nuclear exchange. Not just characters, but developers and fans of the series have often subtly spoken to the nuclear war as a cleansing of the earth, as though the final act of World War III was the much needed reset button. There's a spiritual component to Fallout, always has been.

As for stuff outright, beyond the random encounters of Fallout 2, there's Anna's ghost in the very beginning of Fallout 2, in the Den, the medicine Man speaking to the Chosen One by dreams, and then in Fallout 3 the Dunwhich building and the Blackhall missions in Point Lookout. There's a strong theme that the physical corruption of the Wasteland is a kind of metatization and purging of the spiritual corruption of the Old World. Not so much that everyone was horrible, most of them weren't,. but that the total monsters were legion and well entrenched. In that way, my vampire fits very well in those themes, and as kind of a rebuke to them. And I get to play a character that knew what the Fallout 20th century was like and is fully aware how once the resource wars kicked off things went off the rails. Thus..,the commentary will be lulzy

Also, you have to understand that this character was not meant for Fallout, she was meant for World of Darkness and that ended BADLY. She was a concept character of the innocent unwilling embrace. But regardless, she hated being a vampire with every fiber of her being. Her hatred of vampirism was so strong I was eventually able to argue for her getting 'Golconda' a vampire enlightenment that allowed her to regain her humanity. And it has always been her contention that no good comes of vampirism, that if not for becoming human again, it would have been better to die and she was bitter about everything. Well, I've played her as an ex-vampire and enjoyed it immensely, and in New Vegas, the circle is squared; she didn't become a vampire for malicious or karmic purposes, it was in the grand plan of things so she could be there to have a critical place in the rebuilding of the world. And considering she was born in June of 1982, being a vampire was essentially the only way she could survive long enough to fulfill that destiny. Plus, because I have total control, she's probably the last of the vampires, and vampires daywalk with relative ease, because she is completely unplayable if she can't go into the sun, to the point that when I edit this character to be 'vampire' (which will revolve around traits) she merits the perk 'Solar Powered.' A vampire who gains power from the sun by psychosomatic effect ALONE. I should never have played World of Darkness, I will never make that mistake again. My current LW character was designed as a Etherite, who even though she knows Fallout 3 isn't her real story, is so much happier in Fallout. And when a character prefers to live in the horrors of the Capital Wasteland over the Old World of Darkness and does so without any hesitation or question or debate....yeah. I will never make that mistake again. When a hero scientist considers the Somalia of the 23rd century to offer a safer place, more opportunity for scientific understanding, and more peace of mind than something set in the modern era....yeah, I will never make that mistake again.

There are thematic reasons that fit both the setting and the character, although in a way is rather gonzo.

Well gonzo concept characters aside, are there any US Restoration mods that I might make use of?

Well I wouldn't say she's gonzo. You'v obviously put a lot of thought and character into her. And it's certainly an interesting idea of a vampire surviving into the post apocalyptic future. While I disagree that there is a strong supernatural theme in fallout (I'd say it was much more subtle). I do appreciate the story you'v woven of her being an unwilling vampire and her desire to rebuild civilization (through her immortality).

Although I think NCR is the clear choice (I think House want's to restore the old world flag, but not as a republic), there is another option. What if *you* were to restore it, more directly (as opposed to being in another faction). I'm working on a independent New Vegas thread and I'd like to incorporate restoration of some of the old world ideals as part of it's story line.

Take a look at the thread and let me know if you see an opportunity for a courier to raise the old world flag again, starting in NV.

I understand writing the mod isn't as interesting as playing one, but I'm sure many people feel like you do (restoration of the U.S.), and sometimes telling the story can be it's own reward.

I don't have time to read the thread right now, but I will. One thing I ask is that Ulysses be a major part of the plot. From what I've read of him, he might be the Courier's most potent ally. And given what the NCR did to the Divide (and it seems it was deliberate) maybe you wouldn't so much have to expel the NCR as convince NCR ground commands that the United States, rather than just parochial California is the goal they have so desperately sought. Maybe even write and event chain to get House and the Big MT to sign on, though....my vampire might kill them for what they did to the construction workers at Sierra Merde. That is something Theresa does not forgive or forget.

Also....as an Easter egg or just gonzo awesome, have Private Dobbs from SAD in Fallout 2 as an ally or companion, on the theory that the Chosen One didn't thaw him out, and that when NCR took over, they did in a way that he survived and is a few years past that with no family and no country. So in theory, I will be happy to help write a mod.
