emilyan
Hello. Today i have installed oblivion with all its expansion packs. In addition, i installed the following mods: oscuro oblivion overhaul, qarl's texture pack, unique landscapes compilation, tamriel rebuilt mod for oblivion and oblivion mod manager. I started the game, not before reading every readme and configuring oblivion mod manager properly, then i got to the point where i had to leave the sewers (where introduction ends). The problem is that i get a message:I cannot go that way. I should turn back. Searched over the internet, found borderless cyrodiil, but it didn't solve anything, then i deleted this mod, went to oblivion.ini and changed bBorderRegionsEnabled=1 to 0, still without success. Then, i started to uncheck mods one by one, and found the problem was with a conflict between tamriel rebuilt addon and another addon from the list i mentioned above of addons installed. Can you please help me to solve this conflict, and to have tamriel rebuilt working well with the other addons? Thanks in advance! dubiousintent
You will have to identify which mods are conflicting. As a first step, have you installed BOSS and run it against your Load Order (LO)? BOSS will tell you of known conflicts in it's log, and automatically re-order your mods into the best sequence. It's a very easy (one-click) tool to use and the community's easiest and primary tool to eliminate LO problems. Every time you make a change to you LO, such as adding or removing mods, re-run BOSS. You do not list the Unofficial Oblivion Patch (UOP). You definitely should add that, and re-run BOSS. Then disable all your other mods than the game and DLCs and UOP, enable Tamriel Rebuilt (TR), and try to exit again. If you can't, you will have to see if there is a release thread somewhere that where you can find the author (if they are still around) or someone with more experience with it who can point you to a patch. If TR is not the problem by itself, then you have to add each mod one at a time to find the conflict. OR learn to use TES4Edit to examine your entire LO for the conflict. ('Training Manual for FO3Edit/TES4Edit' is on 'Fallout 3 Nexus' and works fine for Oblivion.) Finally, I don't know your experience but running a modded Oblivion is not a simple 'plug in mods and play' proposition. I strongly suggest you check out some threads for new players such as 'New to mods' and 'Complete Modded Oblivion Installation Guide', even if you are returning after being away for a couple of years. If you plan to add more mods later, I really suggest you read 'OBMM alternative or solution' first. While OBMM is easy to start with, once you start to have more than 'a few' mods you really start to hit it's failings and need Wrye Bash. It's actually required for some overhauls, but not specifically for OOO. It's much easier to learn now. Links in that thread. If you don't invest a little time to get setup correctly up front, you are pretty much guaranteed to have fatal problems around 200 hours into the game. It's never any easier to start over than right at the start. -Dubious-
emilyan
Thank you for your detailed reply. I installed unofficial oblivion patch, boss, ran boss, it showed no error or warning, entered the game, still same problem, then i disabled tamriel rebuilt mod and it worked fine, and then also i disabled everything and left tamriel rebuilt on, and it also worked good. So, i can guess there is a conflict between maps, between tamriel rebuilt and unique landscapes compilation (maybe some places near the sewer are being replaced by both mods at the same time). What should i do next?
dubiousintent
I installed unofficial oblivion patch, boss, ran boss, it showed no error or warning, That is good, and you may have done this but since I am not sure, I'm going to err on the side of caution. You need to check for more than 'errors or warning', at least beyond any 'highlighted messages. Read the notes under mods carefully. Some will tell you not use them in combination with others, some only with particular mods, and some will speak about 'dirty edits'. All of these need to be addressed. Cleaning 'dirty' mods is actually quite simple and safe. The tool automatically makes backups. Instructions and links are provided in the BOSS messages. You have succeeded in confirming this is a mod conflict. As mentioned earlier, TES4Edit is the fastest way to identify which are conflicting (other than asking on the TR site), but I'll lay out the manual process in case you find TES4Edit's manual intimidating. Please bear in mind this is a 'step-by-step' process of elimination. It can be tedious, so patience is required. Read the following through completely first before attempting anything further. The most likely conflict at the tutorial sewer exit is with the Unique Landscape (UL) for 'Region Revive - Lake Rumare'. There is a specific "Compatibility Patch for Region Revive - Lake Rumare and UL Imperial Isle" for this called (not surprisingly) 'Region Revive Lake Rumare - Imperial Isle patch v1_3_4'. All of the compatibility patches are 'here'. Note that there is a 'compilation' file of patches for Wrye Bash/BAIN in the 'Optional Files' section that includes all the files lower down under 'Miscellaneous' (always check the upload date), and the latest patches are above it under 'Updates'. There are a LOT of patches (155 total files on that page), so given you have all the ULs, you should get a compilation file and then the updated patches. (And I would like to point out that UL and it's many patches are an excellent reason to start using Wrye Bash/BAIN.) There is also a separate download page called 'Unique Landscapes Compilation OMOD or BAIN' of the UL files themselves (not patches) that is maintained separately. Note each UL has it's own download page, which might have a more recent version than the compilation. (Search Nexus for 'Unique Landscapes'.) The UL compilation is the easy way to obtain all the ULs, but may not have the latest version of all of them. Again, check the upload/updated dates. Edit: To save having to continually retrace your steps through the tutorial, I suggest you install an alternate start mod that skips you to the end of that dungeon, such as 'Skip the Tutorial Dungeon'. However, I haven't tested that one myself. (I use 'Alternative Beginnings' and skip the sewer completely, but that won't help you find your conflict.) Follow the same procedure as below to ensue it is not conflicting as well. In that case your base install should be vanilla, UOP, and your 'alternate start' mod. Once you are done constructing your test character (just use defaults), save before attempting to exit the sewer. Test, and if there are no problems, exit. This will be your 'base install'. Starting from a base install (that is tested to be working correctly), install just the primary mod, (i.e. TR), and the first test mod, i.e. 'Region Revive - Lake Rumare' Landscape (UL), and test. I'm guessing you will have your problem. If so, install the patch for the UL and the Imperial Isle. Test again, from the same starting point as the previous test (save file or new game, whichever). If the conflict has gone away, most likely the patch was all you needed. However, if not, then you still need to find the conflicting mod. Install or leave installed the UL patch file. Make a new save after a test fails to produce the error. Add another UL. Repeat the test, save if it fails to conflict, and any compatiblity patch needed for the UL, repeat again. One by one add ULs and their patchs (from the compilation first, then updates), testing at each step. Soon or later you will isolate the conflicting mod. If you do not find a patch that resolves the problem, report it to the official 'The Unique Landscapes Project' release thread. (Bookmark it and keep track of new releases in the future.) This project has a major impact on your game world. Stay up to date. But don't apply patches that do not affect mods you are using, and always make a 'Clean Save' before and after applying a patch or update. If problems arise later, you want to be able to recover without having to start over and as little lost progress as possible. If the problem is not with a UL, the same process applies to each of your other mods. Once you have resolved the problem, I recommend you get rid of all the saves from testing, and only keep the save from before testing, and the one after you confirmed the problem is resolved. Edit: You now need to make a choice as to which mod you are ultimately willing to sacrifice if necessary in the event a resolution to the conflict cannot be found, before you start testing. I will point out that UL is more actively supported, and while TR attempting to add new provinces to the game world, it suffers from an ambitious scope and a need for more mod developers to realize it's goals. On the plus side, as a project it has been around since Morrowind and does persist. Regardless, in the above I'm assuming that you are willing to sacrifice UL over TR if necessary. If not, start with the first UL I tested for as your primary mod and test TR against it. Thereafter, add ULs (and their patches) to the 'good combinations save', and test the addition of TR against each. Good luck. -Dubious- Edited September 10, 2012 by dubiousintent
emilyan
After some work, i discovered that the real conflict was between Oscuro Oblivion Overhaul and Tamriel Rebuilt, and no conflict between the last and unique landscapes (as i get no problems exiting the sewers after disabling either oscuro or TR. In addition, i managed somehow to get into the city, and it is the only location where i don't get the problem:"I cannot go that way. I should turn back". In the rest, wherever i would click on the map to "teleport to that location", i get this error, with both oscuro and TR active. Any idea if there is a patch to fix the conflicts between those 2 addons? And again, thank you for your help :) Yours, emilyan
dubiousintent
Good progress. I don't use either mod, but suggest you take your symptoms to their release thread 'here', and the Tamriel Rebuilt Site 'here'. They should be able to help you if such a patch exists. If a patch does not already exist, you will either have to make a choice, see if anyone else is interested or make your own compatibility patch. -Dubious-
