Gem socket mod, does it exist?

Alright, I was messing around in the creation kit and started to create a gem system, a little bit like in diablo 3 but without an actual socket. I am thinking of working on it on the week ends but before I go further, I just want to make sure that I am not wasting my time.

Did a research with both the *gem* and *socket* keyword and haven't find anything but I just want to make sure that nobody did anything like this.

So...is there a mod like that?

You gotta be more patient. These forums are slow as hell.

The original message has been up for 10 hours and I did my own research before asking, not going to work on it for another week anyway but I won't be surprise to have a *No it doesn't exist* kind of reply.

I certainly haven't seen anything like it. I'd be really interested if you end up finishing and releasing it. I haven't played Diablo III but I loooooooove Diablo II and it'd be really cool to see a similar socket system implemented into Skyrim. I think to implement it really well there'd have to be a lot of scripting for keeping track of how many gems you could have based on your equipment and such and that'd get pretty intense with all of the equipment in the game.

I feel like I'm losing my mind because I swear up and down I saw a mod like this on Nexus and went back the next day to download it and found nothing. I finally concluded I dreamed it or something. I'd be very interested in the mod if you can figure out a good way to implement it. Edited by budcat

Yeah right now I just did a system that see the gem as an armor piece with an enchantment on it, pretty much like cloaks from mods use an empty slot in the ck so I made 5 different kinds of gems that use different slots. I would have liked sockets more but I don't even think you can do that with the ck right now, or at least I don't have the skillls.

So far what I implemented is :

5 different gems that use a specific slot( they don't take a slot from the original skyrim but could conflict with some cloaks/armor mods, I would definitely try to make it compatible with the big mods).Took amethyst, sapphire, diamond, emerald and garnet.

6 different rank for gem since there is 6 enchantment rank for the armors in skyrim

example: -chipped emerald

-flawed emerald

-emerald

-flawless emerald

-perfect emerald

-radiant emerald

Not sure yet if I want to put them in leveled list or make them as something you could craft.

If it's a crafting system it would probably look like this:

chipped emerald:5 x corudum ore

flawed emerald : 2x chipped emerald +1 other item

emerald:2x flawed + item

etc.

While it could be fun , that would mean that I would need to create a recipe for each enchantment gems(so 30 enchantment x 6 different gem x2 slot that can use that enchant=360 recipes? :S). It would take a long time but there isn't any script needed for the most part so it's a lot more things like copy-paste and change some text around but I will have to see, if they are in the leveled list, I think I would make them rather rare.

So it would be a gem system that doesn't use real socket pretty much because like biohazard said, it would probably conflict with everything if it was, even weapon mod while, the way it is right now, they take slots not used by the current gear.Again, I would try to make it compatible with big mods taking those specific slots by switching them around.

This sounds like a great idea! I would love it if you kept on working on it! I do however have a minor note. I'm currently using both "cloaks" and "bandoliers" so there aren't that many slots left for me to fill (if any at all), so if you could make a workbench or something that would put the enchantment permanently on the item, it might make more sense, then "just" having more rings. Either way you go - can't wait to see what you do with it!

I actually thought of the bandolier mod when talking about possible conflicts, I think I will download bandoliers and see what kind of slots they use and will see for a workbench as well if I can.
