Crash to desktop after first talk with the night mother

Ok so, I'm experiencing a game ending crash for me. after I finish the first real contract from Astrid and she asks me to hide in the night mothers coffin, I get crash to desktop with no error message after about one to one and a half minutes after all the dialogue. I've tried replaying to that point form various saves and 100% of the time the game will crash after that point in the game. I have no idea what to to, so I'll leave this to better minds than mine. please help, I love this game, but I don't think I have the stamina to restart my assassin from the beginning
