High Quality Fanfiction

Could you possibly point me in the direction of this failed project ? I couldn't see anything similar on my initial (admittedly fairly cursory) search. I would be interested to see why the project failed and if possible avoid any pitfalls they may have discovered. Whats more - if people cared enough to create the project in the first place then there must be more people who could be convinced to contribute to a similar community/ecosystem if it was active.

As for the story - fantastic! Thats exactly why I want to do this project. I will try and put up a simple splash page later on tonight where people can register their interest in becoming beta testers/contributors if you would like to get involved. On that note - are there any web developers/designers who would like to contribute ? I have no problem doing a lot of the heavy lifting on the backend and javascript behaviours etc... but I'm not particularly artistic and the mroe helping hands the quicker something gets off the ground obviously!

Thanks for all your input and suggestions so far. Its been nice to see that I'm not the only one haha. If anyone can think of any other features which they think should be considered as a priority from the get go, or would just be cool to include at some point then do let me know!

A few more ideas I had:

I will have to check the legal implications (because obviously Fanfics count as derivative works under copyright) but If the site were ever to have premium subscriptions I've always thought it would be nice to have a kind of "flatter" system such that a significant percentage (half or more) of a persons premium membership would go into a Kitty, and then when they endorse a story, that author would recieve a percentage of that kitty. For example if a premium subscription was $5 a month. $3 would go into a pot. If they endorsed 3 authors then they would each get a dollar, if they endorsed 6 they would get $0.5 and so on. I know it sounds like nothing but as you would only be able to endorse completed stories it would encourage more people to finish theirs.

It would be cool to be able to track books being currently read by users, and head back to the right place in a book automatically when they go to read it (a la kindle) if they choose to do so online rather than download.

----

To be clear: some of these features are quite advanced and would not be included immediately. They would however be added to the development roadmap. We'll get there lol.

I'll post back again once the splash page is done :)

This is the thread

http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/585499-skyrim-fan-fiction-library/page__hl__giotto

I left part of an unfinished prologue in there under the RP account Fortunado3. But it has been revised and there's much more to mine now. Though that thread is filled with others works.

Problem is/was that the guys in charge gave up on that mod, and there was no proofreading, editing, or even quality control. They were letting anything get in.

Thanks @Enatiomorph !

I hope we should be able to avoid those pitfalls if the project progresses as currently planned.

It hadn't actually been my intention to add the books to TES games themselves through a library area mod, however if people would like to do this then I'm sure it would be no issue at all to add books / collections in a download format that would be friendly for dragging straight into the game.

As for giving up - I don't intend to. Obviously life happens and sometimes you need to take a step back, but I would always try and be upfront about things like that and ensure that any project I was involved in did not unduly suffer as a result.

One key difference between that project and this one will be that this project will have its own community distinct from nexusmods.com . I will look into various forum scripts as a follow on to the splash page so that people can have the chance to get involved directly. When I used to run forums vBulletin was considered the best software for the job - however I am a fan of the feature set of IPB (and the price of other projects such as MyBB haha) so I will have a look around. Any preferences?

Elsweyr... God I wish we were given a LOT more information about that place..... I can't get enough Khajiit in my life, no matter how hard I try. I've got so many mods right now. Whenever I show up the guards just stare wildly at the band of 7 cats that just rolled into town...

I'd love to read a collection of short stories about the adventures of that Band of Cats. And I'm sure many gamers would love an opportunity to get their own adventurers more widely known ...
