Firstly, Forgive me if this has already been created in a topic I did a forum search and couldn't find anything.

As by now im sure most have you have seen screenshots or heard about this awesome mod (MERP) that looks to add/overhaul skyrim to middle earth complete with armours weapons, orcs and everything else from the LOTR films.

They have been issued a cease and desist from Warner Brothers and are looking to battle the claim under fair use, they are signing for a petition here and as I post this they have 9972 signatures. I cant imagine how horrible it must be to work so hard on something for this to happen so please show your support if you like their work and sign the petition here!

You can find out more about the mod and browse their screenshots here for anyone that doesn't know about it yet.

MERP was originally slated as an Oblivion mod, but was not completed prior to the release of TESV. It's since been moved to Skyrim. I think WB is making a mistake. They view it as a threat. It's probably just a way for the corporate attorneys to justify their existence. Ultimately, I think anything like this can only be beneficial, as it keeps the Intellectual Property (IP) on the mind of the public, and will increase their interest in that subject matter. This really makes no sense, but I can see how some slimy attorneys might think it impresses the company executives when they shoot down some alleged IP thieves. Pretty typical actually.

The thing that i find retarded about all of this is that Warner Bros. is acting as if they own the entire LotR franchise. Well, they don't! They own the movies and the games they made. That's it! I swear, J.R.R would be shocked and pretty p***** off at Warner Bros. LotR isn't even fun to read, watch or play anymore. Warner Bros. has simply just turned a great story into a money-machine... If I got a letter like that, you know how I would respond? I would say: "Call me when Christopher Tolkien supports you with this case..." and then I would gladly keep making the mod.
